Hybrid propulsion gives the Amels 80 a dual character: silent electric running in harbour and diesel power for ocean passages.
At 2,200 gross tonnes she is a substantial vessel, yet the hybrid drivetrain allows her to cruise at 12 knots with a range of 5,000 nautical miles, enough for a transatlantic crossing with reserve. Top speed reaches 16.5 knots for repositioning. The steel hull is designed for Lloyd’s classification, and the aluminium superstructure keeps weight high where it matters least. Captains report predictable handling and excellent sea-keeping, qualities that matter when the owner books a winter Atlantic crossing and expects to arrive on schedule.
Espen Oeino drew a profile that manages to look sleek at eighty metres, no small achievement.
The superstructure flows in long, unbroken lines from bow to stern, with full-height glazing that floods the interior with natural light. A raised wheelhouse gives the captain unobstructed sightlines, while the owner’s deck sits one level above the main saloon for privacy. The sun deck is vast, spanning the full beam with a pool, bar and multiple lounging areas. Aft, a dedicated tender garage houses a 10-metre chase boat, jet skis and diving equipment, all launched through a stern door that doubles as a swimming platform. The transom beach club opens at water level, connecting interior and sea.
Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design brings an atelier approach to the interior, treating each space as a composition.
The main saloon is a double-height volume with a feature staircase connecting it to the upper deck. Formal dining seats fourteen, with a private dining option in the sky lounge for smaller groups. The beach club at the stern spans the full beam and can be configured as a spa, gym or entertainment space depending on the owner’s brief. An observation lounge forward on the upper deck provides a quiet retreat with panoramic views. Throughout, the quality of light is exceptional: floor-to-ceiling windows and carefully placed skylights mean every space has a connection to the sea and sky.
Seven suites accommodate fourteen guests across a layout that prioritises space and privacy.
The full-beam owner’s suite occupies the forward section of the owner’s deck, with a private lounge, study, his-and-hers bathrooms and a private terrace. A VIP suite on the main deck forward offers similar proportions. Five further guest cabins are arranged on the lower deck, each with en-suite bathrooms and individually controlled climate. Crew quarters for up to 23 are fully separated from guest areas, with a crew mess, laundry, captain’s cabin with office, and officer cabins. The arrangement ensures that guests never encounter crew traffic during their stay.
The Amels 80 sits at the intersection of semi-custom efficiency and full-custom presence.
Build time from contract to delivery runs approximately 36 months, considerably faster than a comparable full custom project. The proven platform means classification, insurance and flag state approvals follow established precedent, reducing both time and advisory costs. With four hulls sold and the first delivered, the model has a market track record that supports residual value. Running costs are proportionate to the size: a crew of 20-23, annual maintenance to Class requirements, and fuel consumption that the hybrid system keeps in check. For owners who want an 80-metre yacht without the five-year wait and the engineering risk of a one-off build, the Amels 80 is the answer.
