Late May to September gives the most reliable weather and the full run of beach clubs and restaurants along the coast. June and September offer the same conditions with lighter traffic than the July and August peak, when marinas from Nice to Saint-Tropez fill early in the day. The Cannes Yachting Festival in early September is worth building an itinerary around or avoiding, since it fills the Vieux Port and Port Canto with show boats.
Nice Côte d’Azur Airport (NCE) is the region’s main gateway and sits close enough to the coast for a short transfer to marinas in Nice, Villefranche-sur-Mer or Antibes. Guests heading straight to Cannes or Saint-Tropez can also arrive by helicopter transfer from Nice, a route that cuts what would be a one to two hour road journey down to about twenty minutes.
Villefranche-sur-Mer is one of the Mediterranean’s deepest natural harbours and a reliable overnight stop close to Nice’s old town. Further west, the coves around Cap d’Antibes and the bay at Golfe-Juan offer more shelter than the open roadstead off Cannes, while Pampelonne Bay near Saint-Tropez is the place to be for beach club days, best approached outside the midday rush of tenders.
A week gives enough time to move between Nice, Cannes, Antibes and Saint-Tropez without rushing, with a day or two spare for weather or a detour to Menton near the Italian border. Guests with less time often base themselves between Antibes and Cannes, both within easy reach of Èze and the Îles de Lérins, and add Saint-Tropez only if the itinerary allows a full extra day each way.
Yes, if the dates overlap. The 2026 festival runs from 12 to 23 May and pushes marina space and hotel rates in Cannes and neighbouring Antibes noticeably higher for its duration. Charters timed for just before or after the festival still catch reliable late-spring weather without the added cost and congestion, and Nice and Saint-Tropez generally see less of the spillover.
