Selling a Yacht

Guide to Selling

Curated for Connoisseurs

Selling a yacht should feel considered, not complicated. From understanding her market position and preparing the right presentation to reaching qualified buyers and managing the final transaction, every stage requires experience, discretion and a clear strategy.

The Yacht Collection helps owners present their yacht with precision, protect her value and bring her to the attention of the right audience. Whether she is marketed publicly or offered discreetly, we manage the sale around your objectives, timeframe and the market around her.

Your Guide to Buying a Yacht

A sale, considered from every angle

From the first conversation to final completion, we manage each stage of the process with a strategy tailored to your yacht, your objectives and the market around her. Selling a yacht is not simply a matter of placing her on the market. It is about understanding what makes her worth choosing, presenting those qualities with precision, and bringing her to the attention of the right buyers.

Step 1

Understand Your Yacht

A successful sale begins with a clear understanding of the yacht you are bringing to market. Beyond her length, builder and year, we look at the details that influence how buyers will see her: specification, layout, condition, recent upgrades, maintenance history, crew set-up and the way she has been used.

We identify the qualities that make her stand out, as well as any points that may need to be addressed before marketing begins. A strong refit history, low engine hours, a desirable cabin layout, proven charter record or sought-after pedigree can all add to her appeal when presented in the right way.

This first stage gives us a complete picture of your yacht and the story behind her. From there, we can position her with accuracy, prepare her for the market and build a sales strategy around her genuine strengths

Step 2

Prepare for The Market

Before your yacht is introduced to buyers, we make sure she is ready to be seen in the right light. This includes reviewing her presentation, current condition, maintenance records, specification, inventory and the documentation a serious buyer will expect to understand.
Small details can have a significant impact on first impressions. We may recommend a professional clean, light styling, updated photography, minor repairs or the organisation of technical and service records before marketing begins. The aim is not to disguise anything, but to present the yacht with clarity and confidence.
We also consider the practical side of selling: crew availability, berth location, access for viewings and the best moment to bring the yacht to market. With the right preparation in place, buyer interest can be handled smoothly from the very first enquiry.

Step 3

Establish the Right Price

Pricing a yacht correctly is one of the most important decisions in the sales process. A figure that is too high can limit early interest and leave the yacht sitting on the market; a figure that is too low can compromise the value you have built in her.

We assess the asking price through current market evidence, including comparable yachts, recent sales where available, time on the market, condition, specification, refit history and the strength of competing opportunities. We also consider your preferred timeframe and whether a discreet or public sales strategy is most appropriate.

The result is a price position that is credible to serious buyers and aligned with your objectives. We will give you clear advice from the outset, then continue to review the market response as the sale progresses.

Step 4

Build Your Sales Strategy

No two yacht sales should follow exactly the same route. With your yacht’s market position, asking price and your preferred timeframe in mind, we create a strategy designed to reach the right buyers in the right way.

For some owners, a discreet off-market approach is the best fit, allowing the yacht to be introduced privately to selected buyers and trusted brokers. For others, a public campaign creates the visibility needed to generate stronger interest across the wider market. We will advise on the approach that best balances privacy, speed and value.

We also agree the practical terms of the sale from the outset: where the yacht will be marketed, how enquiries will be handled, when viewings can take place and how often you would like to receive updates. This creates a clear direction for the campaign while keeping you in control throughout.

Step 5

Present Your Yacht

A yacht’s first impression is often made before a buyer ever steps on board. Strong photography, accurate specifications and thoughtful sales material allow the right people to understand her character, condition and potential from the very first enquiry.

We create a presentation that reflects your yacht properly, from professionally selected imagery and video to a clear description of her layout, equipment, refit history and key features. The aim is to show what makes her worth choosing without overstating what she is.

Every listing is prepared with the buyer in mind. We make sure the information is easy to understand, the imagery feels considered and the most important details are ready to share when serious interest begins.

Step 6:

Reached Qualified Buyers

The right sale depends on reaching buyers who genuinely match your yacht, not simply creating as much attention as possible. Through our network of clients, brokers and industry contacts, we introduce your yacht to relevant audiences with a considered and targeted approach.

Your yacht may be promoted through our own channels, selected brokerage networks, direct buyer outreach and carefully chosen digital marketing. The strategy is adapted to the yacht, the market and the level of discretion you want to maintain.

We keep you informed of the interest generated, the enquiries received and the conversations developing around your yacht. This gives you a clear view of the campaign without adding unnecessary noise to the process.

Step 7

Managing Inquires and Viewings

Every enquiry is handled with discretion and care. Before arranging a viewing, we qualify the opportunity and make sure the buyer’s interest, budget and intended use are genuinely aligned with your yacht.

We coordinate communication between the buyer, their broker, the Captain and crew, ensuring that viewings take place at the right time and with as little disruption as possible. Buyers are given the information they need to understand the yacht, while your privacy and day-to-day operations remain protected.

Following each viewing, we manage feedback and keep you updated on the strength of interest. This allows us to identify serious opportunities quickly and respond thoughtfully as the sales process develops.

Step 8

Negotiations

When a serious offer is made, we help you assess it in the context of the market and your objectives. The number itself is important, but so are the conditions attached to it, the buyer’s position, proposed timetable and the likelihood of a smooth completion.

We manage the negotiation on your behalf, advising on price, deposit, survey conditions, sea-trial arrangements, delivery terms and any inclusions that may affect the final outcome. Our role is to keep the discussion focused, protect your position and avoid unnecessary friction between the parties.

A successful negotiation is not simply about accepting the highest offer. It is about securing the strongest overall agreement with a buyer who is ready and able to proceed.

Step 9

Contract, Deposit and Due Diligence

Once the principal terms are agreed, the sale moves into contract. The sale and purchase agreement records the agreed price, payment timetable, deposit arrangements, survey and sea-trial conditions, delivery expectations and the responsibilities of both buyer and seller.

The buyer will normally provide proof of financial capability and place a deposit with the agreed stakeholder or escrow party. This secures the transaction while the agreed conditions are completed and gives both parties a clear framework for how the sale will progress.

During this stage, the buyer may arrange a survey, sea trial and documentation review. We coordinate communication with the relevant brokers, surveyors, Captain, crew and advisers, helping the process move forward efficiently while keeping you informed at every stage.

Step 10

Closing, Delivery and Transfer of Ownership

Once the agreed conditions have been satisfied, the sale moves to completion. Final funds are transferred through the agreed process, ownership documents are signed and the yacht is formally delivered to her new owner.
We coordinate the final practical details with the relevant parties, including delivery arrangements, the handover of manuals, records, keys and inventory, and the transfer or de-registration of the yacht’s registration where required. Crew, berth and operational arrangements can also be managed around the agreed handover date.
Our involvement continues until the sale has been completed properly and the yacht has changed hands smoothly. Should you wish to remain involved with yachting in a different way afterwards, we are equally here to help with your next charter, purchase or new project.
