Her hull does the work most yachts leave to horsepower.
Azimut and Pierluigi Ausonio’s naval architecture studio developed a double chine, wave piercing bow that lets the Grande 36M shift between displacement and semi-planing modes as speed demands, trimming fuel use by around 30 per cent against a conventional hard chine hull and earning her a Low Emission Yacht designation. Twin MTU 16V 2000 M96 engines, developing in the region of 2,200 horsepower apiece, move a hull displacing around 180 tonnes to a 24 knot top speed and a settled 20 knot cruise. A 20,000 litre fuel capacity underwrites a 1,500 nautical mile range, numbers that matter as much at the fuel dock as they do at sea.
GRP below the waterline, carbon fibre above it.
Alberto Mancini keeps the profile lean, with a fibreglass hull carrying a carbon fibre superstructure and beach platform for weight saved high where it counts most. The main deck saloon flexes between living and dining, the upper deck wraps into a semi-walkaround skylounge behind three sets of sliding glass doors, and the aft cockpit carries a bar and dining area screened by glass bulwarks. Forward, the foredeck holds a spa pool and a sunpad built for four. An optional sun deck with its own bar and seating gives owners who want one more layer a place to take it.
The stern folds away to make room for the sea.
A transforming beach platform lowers and extends at anchor, turning the aft deck into a proper beach club within reach of the water, then closes back into the hull’s lines once the yacht gets underway. Every piece of furniture on board is bespoke to this hull, drawn rather than picked from a catalogue, which gives the saloon, skylounge and cockpit a consistency few yachts in this size range manage. Storage and entertainment systems are built into the joinery rather than left standing proud, keeping sightlines clean from the saloon glass through to the water beyond.
The owner’s suite runs the full width of the main deck, glazed floor to ceiling.
Achille Salvagni’s interior sets that cabin amidships, where motion is least felt, and wraps it in glass rather than portholes, so the water stays visible from the bed. Four further cabins, a VIP, a double and two with Pullman berths, bring the total to five and sleep ten guests in comfort. A crew of six works from their own quarters forward, keeping service close but never in view. The result is a layout that reads as generous rather than crowded, built around how an owner actually moves through a day on board.
Fifteen hundred nautical miles is enough to cross distances other yachts need to break into stages.
At a 20 knot cruise, the Grande 36M’s efficiency gains translate directly into fewer fuel stops and longer stretches between them, a genuine advantage for an owner who wants to cruise widely rather than shuttle between the same few marinas. Priced from 15 million euros, she sits as the most accessible way into Azimut’s Grande range, without asking an owner to compromise on the five cabin layout, the beach platform or the naval architecture that larger Grande models share. For a first step into flagship territory, or a second yacht built around distance rather than dockside display, she is a considered choice.
