Range, not top speed, is the point of this yacht.
Twin MAN V12 diesels, 1,550 horsepower each as standard, drive the Magellano 30M to a cruising speed of 20 knots and a top end of 24, with an option to step up to 1,650 horsepower per side. The Dual Mode hull, with its double chines and skeg, is tuned to hold a steady, efficient pace rather than chase big numbers, and Azimut claims up to 20 per cent lower emissions at cruise as a result. A 14,000 litre fuel capacity supports a range of 1,000 nautical miles, enough to cross open water without a second thought. An optional lithium battery pack adds a Zero Emission Hotel Mode, running silently at anchor for up to eight hours overnight.
She looks like a yacht built to go somewhere, and she is.
Ken Freivokh drew a profile that borrows from expedition trawlers without imitating them: a high freeboard, a straight raked bow and a superstructure kept deliberately low. Carbon fibre in the superstructure and hardtop trims weight aloft and keeps her steady in a seaway. Close to 70 square metres of glazing wraps the main and upper decks, so the sense of enclosure that usually comes with a long range hull never quite arrives. A foredeck lounge with an optional spa pool sits forward, an aft cockpit with curved seating and a glass bulwark aft, and a fully opening transom platform turns the stern into a proper beach club at anchor.
Five cabins, ten guests, and a full beam master suite that never has to compete for space.
The owner’s suite sits forward on the main deck, spanning the full beam with large hull windows that bring the sea level with the bed. Below, four further cabins, two VIP staterooms and two convertible twins, each with its own en suite bathroom, sleep the remaining guests in comparable comfort. Freivokh’s design language continues inside with a material palette of marble, brushed brass, cream toned carpeting and bleached wood, chosen to soften the trawler silhouette with a lighter, more contemporary hand. Three crew cabins keep the working side of the yacht separate from guest life, a detail that matters more on long passages than at the dock.
Life on board spreads across three full decks, each with its own rhythm.
The upper deck carries a sky lounge, shaded dining and a bar, a natural gathering point once the sun drops. Below it, the aft cockpit offers curved seating behind glass bulwarks that cut the wind without blocking the view, while the foredeck lounge, with its optional spa pool, gives guests a second, quieter space forward. Aft, the transom platform opens fully to the water, turning swim stops into an extension of the cockpit rather than an afterthought. Humphree fin stabilisers keep all of this level at anchor and underway, so the spaces do their job in a seaway as well as they do in harbour.
A flagship built for owners who measure a yacht in nautical miles, not marina hours.
Built by Azimut with naval architecture from P.L. Ausonio and Azimut’s own R&D team, the Magellano 30M measures 29.6 metres overall on a 7.1 metre beam, with a 2 metre draught and a displacement of around 140 tonnes. Crew of five run a yacht designed to be self sufficient over distance, supported by an optional BCool air sanitising system and the range and tankage to back it up. Priced from 12.5 million euros new, she sits at the top of a range built on one idea: that comfort and genuine range are not opposites. For an owner planning real voyages rather than short hops, that is exactly the point.
