Riva calls the 58′ Capri the first of a new generation of open yachts, which in practice means the marque has stopped choosing between a sports boat and a weekender. The fixed canopy is the giveaway. It flows into the hull rather than sitting on top of it, shades the whole cockpit, and gives the profile the low, drawn-out look Riva has been refining since the Rivale.
Seventeen metres of hull carry fourteen people. The cockpit is the centre of the boat, with the helm forward under the canopy and a long social area behind it opening onto the bathing platform. Below, two guest cabins and two bathrooms make the yacht usable for a weekend rather than a lunch, and a separate crew cabin with its own heads sits apart from the guest space.
Twin MAN V8 engines of 1,000 horsepower each give 33 knots and a 27-knot cruise, with 210 nautical miles of range from 2,300 litres. Owners who want more specify the 1,200 horsepower version of the same block.
At 27.9 tonnes light the boat is substantial for its length, and that is where the ride comes from. A Riva of this size gets bought for how it looks on a mooring in Portofino and how it behaves crossing to Corsica. The 58′ Capri does not ask the buyer to trade one for the other.
