The seven Aeolian Islands rise from the Tyrrhenian Sea north of Sicily, each with its own character: Lipari’s pumice-white coastline, Vulcano’s steaming fumaroles, Panarea’s fashionable harbour and Stromboli with its near-constant volcanic activity visible at night. A charter yacht covers the full archipelago in a week, combining active volcanic landscapes with crystalline water and unhurried village life.
The Aeolians sit roughly 25 nautical miles from Milazzo on Sicily’s northeast coast, making them a natural extension of a Sicilian circuit or a standalone destination. Anchorages range from Panarea’s scenic north bay to the quiet coves of Filicudi and Alicudi, the westernmost islands that see far fewer visitors.
At 50,000 euros per week, the charter fleet offers well-equipped motor and sailing yachts in the 35 to 40-metre range with a professional captain and crew. An advance provisioning allowance of around 15,000 euros covers fuel for island-hopping, provisions, wine and harbour dues, with unspent funds returned at the voyage end.
The season runs from June through September. Winds in the Tyrrhenian are generally lighter than the Aegean meltemi, making the Aeolians suitable for guests who want manageable conditions and volcanic sightseeing in equal measure. June and September often carry lower rates than the July-August peak.
