Provence: Marseille & the Calanques Charter Itinerary

Provence: Marseille & the Calanques Itinerary

Provence: Marseille & the Calanques Yacht Charter
The wilder, western end of the French coast, where Marseille’s ancient energy gives way to the white limestone drama of the Calanques and the golden islands of Hyeres. This seven-day route trades Riviera glamour for something rawer and more elemental, sea cliffs, hidden inlets and protected marine parks. Expect a great port city and a Dumas fortress, fjord-like calanques and vineyard coasts, some of the most spectacular and least-crowded cruising in the Mediterranean.

Every route we shape is a starting point, not a fixed schedule. Stay a second day where the light is right, move with the weather, or follow a captain to a quieter cove. What follows is one considered way to read it; the rest we tailor to you.
Day 1

Marseille

Step aboard in Marseille, France’s oldest and most vibrant port, a sun-baked jumble of history, culture and cuisine. Explore the atmospheric Vieux-Port and the hilltop basilica of Notre-Dame de la Garde, then sail out for a first swim beyond the harbour.

Day 2

Chateau d If & the Frioul Islands

Cruise to the rocky Frioul archipelago off Marseille, home to the island fortress of the Chateau d’If, immortalised by Dumas in The Count of Monte Cristo. Explore the castle, then anchor in a clear calanque of the islands for a swim and lunch on deck.

Day 3

The Calanques

Sail into the spectacular Calanques National Park, a series of narrow, fjord-like inlets cut into towering white cliffs between Marseille and Cassis. Anchor in the dazzling turquoise water of a hidden calanque, swim beneath the limestone, and drink in the silence.

Iles d Hyeres

Cruise to the beautiful Iles d’Hyeres, the golden islands, led by pristine Porquerolles with its white-sand beaches, pine forests and vineyards, much of it a protected park. Anchor off a near-deserted beach and give the day to the water.

The voyage ends at Port-Cros, France’s first marine national park, a lush and mountainous island ringed by protected reefs. Follow the underwater snorkelling trail among the fish, take a final swim, then cruise in to close a week on the wild coast.
