A Baglietto with a Bannenberg interior is not a common thing on the charter market, and it is the reason to look twice at TIMBUKTU. Forty-two metres of aluminium, drawn outside by Francesco Paszkowski and finished inside by Bannenberg & Rowell, she has the low, deliberate profile of a yacht designed before volume became the only measure of value. She also draws just 2.2 metres, which puts her into coves that deeper forty-two-metre yachts have to admire from outside.
Her defining piece of layout is the master. It sits full-beam on the main deck forward of the salon, with a hull window at the beam and a private bathroom finished in pale marble with a full tub. Putting the owner’s cabin up here rather than below is the single decision that most changes how a yacht of this size feels to charter: the principal gets daylight, quiet and a private route forward, and the four cabins below take the rest of the eleven guests without competing for the same air.
Those four are unusually varied. Two doubles in cream and rosewood, two twins in pale oak that read almost like a different yacht – lighter, simpler, plainly aimed at younger guests. IYC’s own inventory backs that up: baby equipment and a stocked cupboard of children’s toys sit in the list alongside the Seabobs and the wakeboards. This is a family boat that has not been dressed up as anything else.
Outside she is generous for her length. The sundeck carries a circular jacuzzi, sunpads under folded umbrellas and a shaded table, with enough teak between them that the spaces do not run into one another. One level down, the aft deck seats the whole party around a single table beneath the overhang. Aft of that the swim platform is where the toy programme actually lives: a 10.5-metre Scorpion RIB on twin 300hp engines, a Highfield 390, a Seadoo, two Seabobs, sea kayaks, paddleboards and a full water-ski package. Three e-bikes go ashore with you.
Inside, the register is warm rather than bright. Cream upholstery, rosewood and figured veneer, indirect light in the deckheads, and windows set low enough that the water is visible from a sofa. The main salon runs to facing sofas and a low table; forward of it the formal dining table sits against a textured bronze panel. On the upper deck a second, more informal salon – leather club chairs, a bar, a games table – is where most of the evening happens.
She works both ends of the Mediterranean year-round: the Riviera and the Balearics in one direction, Greece, Turkey and the Adriatic in the other. Zero-speed stabilisers make the difference between an anchorage that holds through dinner and one you leave at midnight.
Refitted in 2016 and again in 2021, TIMBUKTU charters at a rate well under what a design pedigree of this order usually commands. For a family of eleven who want shallow-water access, a properly varied cabin plan and a crew of nine who have clearly done this before, she is one of the more sensible arguments at forty-two metres.
