The hard top is cut low, so the 52 SC never looks like she is wearing a roof she did not ask for.
Alium’s design team, working from the brand’s French yard, has kept the semi enclosed superstructure in proportion with the hull rather than stacking height onto it, so the silhouette stays level and planing rather than top heavy. Windows set into either side of the windscreen give safe access forward to the bow sunbed, a detail that matters more than it sounds once the boat is underway and a guest wants to move forward without crossing open deck. The aluminium hull carries a clean, unbroken sheer from bow to transom, and the hard top’s supports are slender enough that the view out from the cockpit stays largely uninterrupted. It is a cruising boat drawn with a sport boat’s eye.
Two cabins, eight berths and a genuine galley below, built for more than a day on the water.
The 52 SC sleeps eight across two cabins, more generous than either of her Alium siblings, a reflection of her role as the cruising version of the range rather than the sport open one. A kitchen and bathroom sit below deck alongside the cabins, finished in Alium’s usual pale, clean joinery, with enough headroom and natural light to make the lower deck feel like genuine accommodation rather than a place to simply sleep. A crew of two keep the boat running, service and systems both, which matters more on a boat built for longer days and nights aboard than on her sportier siblings.
The terrace is the same generous 36 square metres as her open sibling, just with a roof over part of it.
A central cooking island, covered and cooled under the hard top, carries a grill, a sink, an ice maker and outdoor refrigeration, built around a table and bar seating for guests who want shelter without giving up the outdoor cooking that defines the range. Twelve day guests can move between this covered terrace and the open bow sunbed depending on the weather, which is the real advantage a hard top brings over a fully open deck. The terrace stays open to the sea at the transom, so the feeling of space does not disappear just because part of the deck now has shelter above it.
Life aboard the 52 SC follows the weather rather than fighting it.
The semi enclosed layout means the helm, the cooking island and much of the seating stay usable in conditions that would send guests below on a fully open boat, while the bow sunbed and aft cockpit remain available the moment the sun returns. Twelve day guests spread easily across these zones, and the planing hull keeps the ride settled enough at a 28 knot cruise that moving between deck and cabin never feels like a balancing act. It is this flexibility, more than any single feature, that marks the 52 SC out as the cruising minded member of the Alium range.
Four hundred nautical miles is the figure that sets the 52 SC apart from her siblings.
Twin Volvo Penta D11 engines are standard, with MAN i6 800 or Caterpillar C12.9 units offered as alternatives, driving a planing aluminium hull to a 32 knot top speed and a settled 28 knot cruise. An 1,800 litre fuel capacity behind that gives her a 400 nautical mile range, longer than either her open sibling the 52 S or the smaller 42 T Top, a direct result of the aluminium hull’s efficiency at speed. A 1.2 metre draught keeps shallow anchorages within reach despite her 16 metre length, and the engine options let an owner match the powertrain to how far, and how often, they intend to cruise.
