A diesel inboard, not an outboard, sets her apart from the rest of the Antares range.
The standard Yanmar 4LV195 trades the outright speed of a petrol outboard for the range, torque and reliability serious anglers ask for on long runs to the grounds, settling into a steady 20 knot cruise with a 25 knot top end. Suzuki’s DF200AP or a Honda BF200 outboard are offered for owners who prefer that layout instead. At 3,100 kilograms, over 600 kilograms heavier than the standard Antares 8, she carries the weight of a full fishing outfit and a 300 litre fuel tank without it costing her composure at sea, and that tank stretches to a 150 nautical mile range, enough for a genuine day offshore and back.
Every fitting on deck answers to the fishing, not the other way round.
Rod holders sit at a dedicated fishing station aft, backed by a recirculating livewell that keeps bait and catch alive through a full day on the water, and storage compartments beneath the cockpit sole hold the rest of the catch out of the sun. A search spotlight mounted aft extends fishing into the twilight hours, and a 12 inch fish finder can be fitted to the roof for owners who want the electronics to match the ambition. The open cockpit layout means anyone aboard can see the whole boat from a single spot, useful when several lines are out at once.
Space to move is the quiet advantage of this layout.
The cockpit keeps clear sightlines from bow to stern, letting a full crew of eight day guests work rods, land fish and stay out of each other’s way at the same time. An optional 12 inch helm display simplifies navigation to the grounds and back, particularly useful before dawn or after dark when the spotlight is doing the work. It is a layout built around a group fishing trip rather than a single angler, which makes her as suited to a morning out with friends as to a serious day on the water alone.
A cabin below deck means the fishing does not have to end the day.
A forward double berth sleeps two, enough for an owner to stay aboard overnight before an early start to the grounds, or simply to rest between sessions rather than heading back to a marina each time. The accommodation is deliberately modest. This is a working boat first, and the cabin exists to extend a day on the water rather than to compete with the fishing deck for attention. It is exactly the balance a genuine angler will want from a boat this size.
At 90,000 euros new, she is priced as a tool rather than a toy.
Engineered and styled entirely in house by Beneteau’s own teams, the Antares 8 Fishing shares her 8.2 metre length, 2.8 metre beam and 0.9 metre draught with the standard Antares 8, giving access to the same shallow moorings while carrying a heavier, more capable fishing specification underneath. She welcomes eight guests for the day and sleeps two for the night, a combination that suits an owner who fishes hard and occasionally stays out to do it again at first light. For anyone building a fishing led yacht collection, or adding a serious tender to a larger yacht, she is a considered and specific choice.
