Forty knots from a single outboard, and barely a ripple of drama getting there.
A 200 horsepower Suzuki drives the Flyer 7 SUNdeck to a genuine 40 knot top end, cruising comfortably at 25 knots when the day calls for something more relaxed. She is up onto the plane in a little over six seconds, and her 170 litre tank keeps her going for a full day on the water. Beneteau’s own design and engineering teams handled the hull and layout in house, keeping the package simple: one engine, one helm, and a boat that answers instantly to throttle and wheel alike. Yamaha and Mercury options sit alongside the standard Suzuki, so the choice of outboard is the owner’s alone.
The console moved to the centre, and everything about her got simpler.
Beneteau’s redesign replaces the old frameless screen with a wraparound windscreen and shifts the helm to the middle of the deck, opening a symmetrical walkaround on both sides all the way forward. Integrated steel rails and the removal of the previous model’s decorative plastic columns give her a cleaner, more classical profile than the boat she succeeds. At 7.2 metres overall on a 2.5 metre beam, she draws just 0.5 metres, shallow enough for a beach landing or a quiet cove most larger yachts cannot reach. The result is a small boat that reads as considered rather than compromised.
The aft bench folds down into a second sunpad, and the deck barely notices.
Rotating helm seats and fold down side benches turn the cockpit from a driving position into a lounging one in moments, and the bow opens into a genuine sunbathing area up front. The whole layout is built around eight guests enjoying a day on the water rather than a formal cruise, with a single forward hatch bringing modest natural light below. That restraint below deck is deliberate: this is a boat built for time in the open, on the water, rather than time spent in a cabin.
One cabin, two berths, and just enough privacy for a change of clothes or a night at anchor.
Below the console, an asymmetrical berth arrangement sleeps two, with a chemical toilet and an optional fridge covering the essentials. It is a modest space by design, built for changing before a swim or an unplanned night on the hook rather than for extended cruising, and it asks nothing of the deck plan above. For a boat this size, that single cabin is what separates the SUNdeck from an open day boat, and gives her the flexibility to double as a small overnighter when the weather and the mood allow.
An easy first yacht, or an equally easy second boat for the tender pontoon.
The Flyer 7 SUNdeck measures 7.2 metres overall on a 2.5 metre beam, with a light displacement of 1.8 tonnes and a 0.5 metre draught that opens up shallow anchorages larger yachts cannot reach. Power comes from a single 200 horsepower outboard, Suzuki as standard with Yamaha and Mercury options, giving an owner the freedom to specify to their own preference. She carries eight guests by day and sleeps two aboard, all from a genuinely accessible price point within the range. For an owner stepping onto the water for the first time, or simply wanting a fast, uncomplicated second boat, she is very easy to justify.
