Forty knots and a half metre draught rarely come in the same boat.
The standard 300 horsepower Suzuki carries her to a 25 knot cruise and a 40 knot top end, with a 350 horsepower Mercury or a 300 horsepower Yamaha listed as alternatives for owners who want more midrange punch. Beneteau’s second generation Air Step hull sits beneath all three, a stepped underbody that traps air along the running surface to lift the boat onto plane earlier and hold it flat once there. With 340 litres of fuel she covers 200 nautical miles at cruise, and her 0.5 metre draught means she reaches sandbars and shallow anchorages a deeper hulled boat would have to avoid.
Nothing about her profile hints at a cabin, because there is not one.
Beneteau Design drew the SPACEdeck as a single open plane from bow to transom, a blunt bow section over a sharp forward entry with deeply scalloped chines that carry the Air Step’s benefits into the hull’s visual language. Dual swim platforms flank the outboard well, a folding stainless steel ladder drops straight into the water, and a shower point and cup holders sit within reach of the transom. The injection moulded polyester sandwich hull keeps every panel consistent in strength and finish, a detail that shows in how solid she feels underfoot even at speed. It is a purposeful, uncluttered shape built around access to the water rather than time spent indoors.
The cockpit reconfigures itself faster than the guests can settle in.
A single level cockpit flows straight into the bow, where a full width convertible lounge switches between forward and rear facing seating and a fixed twin lounge holds six guests across the two spaces. Aft, a sliding console conceals a marine toilet, a rare fitting for a boat with no formal cabin, giving the SPACEdeck a practical edge for full days away from the marina. Cushions and backrests fold flat within seconds, turning a lunch table into open deck space without a single loose part to stow. Eight guests fit comfortably across the boat, testament to how efficiently the wide beam has been used.
She is built to be used hard, not admired from the pontoon.
An optional T-top with an aluminium frame and bimini canvas extends her usable hours into the middle of the day, and injection moulded polyester sandwich construction keeps her light without feeling insubstantial underfoot. Owners use her as a fishing platform, a tow boat for water sports and a straightforward family cruiser, often within the same afternoon. The shallow draught that defines her performance does the same job at rest, letting her nose onto a beach or into a lagoon that would ground a deeper hulled boat, then carry everyone home again once the sun goes down.
At 70,000 euros, she asks a modest premium for a genuinely different boat.
Built in house by Beneteau’s own naval architecture and engineering teams, the Flyer 8 SPACEdeck measures 8.2 metres length overall on a 2.5 metre beam, with her signature 0.5 metre draught setting her apart from the rest of the range. The standard 300 horsepower Suzuki keeps running costs sensible, while the Mercury and Yamaha options give buyers a choice of character rather than a compromise. She needs no crew and no cabin to maintain, making her one of the simplest boats in The Yacht Collection to own and operate.
