Beneteau Oceanis Yacht 60 Yacht Review

The Oceanis Yacht 60 replaces a bigger boat with a lighter one. Beneteau retired the Oceanis Yacht 62 in her favour, shed five tonnes of displacement and lowered the freeboard, yet kept the interior volume intact. She is proof that a flagship does not need extra length to feel like one. Biscontini Yacht Design evolved the hull from the First 53 and Oceanis Yacht 54 that came before her, broadening the forward sections and adding flare above the waterline for a drier, more assured ride. Lorenzo Argento carried that same authority through the deck, profile and interior, so the yacht reads as one coherent idea rather than a collection of separate briefs. Three cabins and three heads sleep six, with day space for ten and two crew aboard to run her properly. At 18.8 metres and close to 850,000 EUR new, she sits at the top of Beneteau’s cruising range, and she earns the position.
At Sea

Lighter than her predecessor, and it shows the moment she heels.

In 12 knots of true wind she holds 7.5 knots upwind, building to 8.3 knots as the breeze reaches 15. The optional tall performance rig carries around 30 per cent more sail than the standard furling mast, and the broader forward sections Biscontini added over the First 53 hull keep her settled rather than skittish as the pressure builds. Under power, the standard 150 HP Yanmar brings her to an 8 knot cruise and 10 knots at full throttle, with 500 nautical miles of range from 1,000 litres of fuel. For a 60 footer, she handles with a lightness that owners used to smaller yachts will recognise immediately.

Exterior Design

Every proportion here has been reduced without losing presence.

Lower freeboard than the yacht she replaces gives the profile a sleeker, more purposeful line, while a deep bulwark and guardrails taller than the usual 60 centimetre standard keep the deck genuinely secure underway. The optional hardtop, with its sliding fabric centre section, opens the cockpit to the sky at anchor and closes it against weather at sea. Aft, a tender garage sized for a Williams 280 Jet RIB with an electric winch handles the toys without eating into guest space, and an optional forward skipper cabin keeps professional crew separate from family life. It is a deck drawn for owners who use their yacht hard, not just admire her at the dock.

Interior & Accommodation

The forward owner’s suite alone justifies stepping up to the 60.

A walk around bed, separate head and shower, and four opening overhead hatches give the owner’s cabin a sense of space rarely found on a sailing yacht this size. Two mirror image aft cabins, each with its own en suite and separate shower stall, complete a three cabin, three head layout built for real privacy rather than shared compromise. In the saloon, hull windows set at eye level flood the space with light, a two person sofa and a dining table for eight anchor the social area, and a curved navigation station to starboard keeps sailing systems close without intruding on it. Lorenzo Argento’s interior carries the same restraint as his exterior work: nothing overstated, everything considered.

On Board

The cockpit is built for guests as much as for the crew working it.

L shaped seating and convertible tables turn the aft deck into a proper dining and lounging area, while the forward galley, with its three burner cooker, extractor hood and generous refrigeration to port, keeps meals moving without disappearing below for long stretches. An optional dishwasher takes the domestic edge off longer stays aboard. With ten guests accommodated by day and two crew aboard to keep the yacht running, she is built for genuine entertaining rather than for photographs taken once and never repeated.

Ownership & Specification

The Oceanis Yacht 60 is Beneteau’s most complete argument yet for a lighter flagship.

She measures 18.8 metres on a 5.3 metre beam, displacing 22,000 kilograms on a 2.7 metre draught, five tonnes lighter than the Oceanis Yacht 62 she succeeded while matching her interior volume. Biscontini Yacht Design’s hull and Lorenzo Argento’s deck, profile and interior are built under Beneteau’s own engineering programme, and the standard 150 HP Yanmar and 1,000 litre fuel tank give her genuine range under power as well as sail. At close to 850,000 EUR new, she asks a fair price for a yacht that replaces a bigger boat without losing anything that mattered.
