Seventy five horsepower as standard, ninety available, and a hull shaped to use every bit of it.
The 160 Super Sport ships with a Mercury FourStroke 75 horsepower outboard, with 60 or 90 horsepower options either side depending on how the owner intends to use her. A sharp bow entry, buoyant forward hull sections and wide, reversed chines keep the ride dry and stable rather than wet and twitchy, even with six aboard. Cruise sits at 20 knots and the top end at 30, delivered on a 0.3 metre draught shallow enough for back bays and sandbars that a deeper hulled boat would have to avoid altogether.
A self bailing cockpit means one less thing for an owner to think about.
Water clears itself rather than relying on a bilge pump, and low profile side rails run standard around the hull for anyone moving forward under way. Seating spreads easily across six: two on the helm bench, additional spots on cooler seating either side of the console, and a pair on the bow deck for calmer water. An optional tow arch turns the same boat into a platform for skiing or towable water toys, and a telescoping swim ladder on the port side makes getting back aboard straightforward after a swim.
The hull and deck are one unsinkable structure, built the way Boston Whaler has built every model since the name began.
Fibreglass hull and deck are bonded together and injected with foam under high pressure, adding buoyancy and rigidity as a single manufacturing step rather than an afterthought. Design, naval architecture and engineering all sit with Boston Whaler’s own teams, so the construction philosophy matches the smaller 130 Super Sport in the same collection while scaling up for a larger crew. Mercury’s VesselView system comes standard on the engine, giving the owner live monitoring through a phone over Bluetooth. A galvanised trailer with a swing away tongue completes a package built to be towed and launched without fuss.
A hundred nautical miles from two small tanks is a serious return for a boat this size.
Two tanks feed the standard Mercury FourStroke, giving a combined 45 litre capacity and a 100 nautical mile range at cruise, enough for a full day on the water with margin to spare. A larger tank is available as an option for owners who want to push further without refuelling, though most use of a boat this size stays close to home waters. The shallow draught that defines her hull also means that range translates into reach, not just distance, opening up creeks and shallows a deeper boat could never explore on the same tank.
A boat built to be used hard, with nothing on board that asks for special care.
She measures 4.9 metres on a 2.1 metre beam, with capacity for six day guests and no cabins or crew to plan around. That is deliberate. The 160 Super Sport sits a size up from the 130 Super Sport in the same range, trading a little of its simplicity for extra capacity and horsepower, without adding any genuine complexity to own or run. Listed new at $18,000, she is a straightforward way to add a capable, family sized tender or standalone day boat to a collection, built by a name with decades behind its hull technology.
