Contest Yachts has built bluewater sailing yachts in Medemblik, the Netherlands, for three generations. Every hull carries a Lloyd Register of Shipping classification, a distinction few production yards maintain across a full range. The current lineup runs from the 42CS to the flagship 85CS, complemented by two motor yacht variants in the 52MC series. Judel/Vrolijk designs the hull forms, drawing on decades of IMS and IRC racing data to produce shapes that balance upwind pointing ability with stable, comfortable motion in open-ocean swell. Below the waterline, the keels and rudders use carbon construction, saving weight low and improving response without compromising structural margins. Interior work comes from Wetzels Brown Partners, whose approach pairs solid teak joinery with restrained detailing and well-considered ambient lighting. The yard specifies hydraulic sail handling with full manual backup across the range, ensuring that a crew of two can manage even the 85-footer without calling on additional hands. Each yacht ships with a comprehensive ship-management system that monitors critical systems through redundant sensors and a central display, backed by noise and vibration reduction technologies that keep engine hours quiet in the accommodation. Contest sources its electrical, plumbing and rigging components from established marine suppliers and assembles everything under one roof, giving the build team direct oversight from lamination through final commissioning.
