Forty knots at the top, twenty five at a settled cruise, and barely a ripple of bow lift getting there.
Twin Volvo Penta D4-300 engines come as standard, with D6-380 and D6-440 options for owners who want more top end. The hull settles onto a plane at just 13 to 14 knots, well below where most boats her size need to work, and holds a flat attitude through the range rather than fighting the helm. A 1 metre draught keeps her out of trouble close to shore, and 758 litres of fuel give a useful 300 nautical mile range at cruising speed, enough for a full day’s passage with margin to spare.
A plumb bow and a single level deck put the Mediterranean walkaround format at the centre of her design.
Fjord’s in house team cut every unnecessary kilogram from the equation: no hydraulic bathing platform, no drop down bulwarks, just rectangular fenders that slot flush into recesses along the hull side when not in use. The result reads as clean as it is light. A full width T top shelters the helm and aft seating without closing the boat in, and the single level deck lets anyone move from bow to stern without a step or a rail in the way, a detail that matters as much at anchor as it does underway.
The cockpit is built to be used from every angle, not just admired from the dock.
A transverse wet bar sits to one side of a central dinette with a table that converts for lounging, while a raised aft sunbed, fitted with its own steel rail, gives a second distinct spot to relax once the anchor is down. Forward, a raised island sunbed seats two and turns the bow into genuine living space rather than a place to simply sit. The helm faces forward with three seats behind the wheel, keeping the person driving close to the guests rather than isolated at a console. Multiple storage compartments are worked into the deck mouldings throughout.
Below deck, the 39XL trades size for genuine usability.
The bow cabin carries improved headroom over the model she replaces, a change that makes a real difference on a boat this size, and sleeps two in comfort. A second cabin covers the remaining two guests, with heads positioned to starboard and finished to match the deck above. One crew berth rounds out the accommodation, enough for an owner who wants occasional help without carrying a full crew complement. It is not a yacht built to disappear below for days at a time, but for overnighting and short cruises, the layout does exactly what is asked of it.
A 40 knot day boat priced to be driven hard and often.
At 450,000 euros new, the 39XL measures 11.8 metres LOA on a 3.7 metre beam, with a 1 metre draught and 8 tonnes of displacement. Fjord’s in house team handled naval architecture, exterior design, interior and engineering in full, a single authored approach that shows in how consistently the boat is resolved from hull to helm. Twin Volvo Penta power, a 300 nautical mile range and accommodation for four guests plus one crew make her equally suited to a long weekend or a full season of day running. Launched at the Palma Boat Show, she is a direct, well judged entry into the performance walkaround segment.
