Lurssen, the Bremen shipyard founded in 1875, has built some of the most significant superyachts in history, with the majority of vessels over 80 metres to their account. In the Exumas, a Lurssen charter represents the absolute apex of private yacht travel: crews of 20 to 30, helicopter pads, submarine tenders, and interior decoration by the leading studios. The four Lurssen yachts available for charter in the Bahamas and Caribbean are all over 60 metres, with the largest exceeding 90 metres. The Exuma Sound offers deep-water anchorages suitable for these vessels in the channel approaches to Staniel Cay, at the northern anchorage of Warderick Wells, and in the broad harbour at George Town. Charter weeks from December through April in the Bahamas are structured around the itinerary the client designs: Lurssen charters are by their nature bespoke, with provisioning, crew planning, and route approval carried out weeks in advance. Rates begin around 350,000 euros per week for a 60-metre Lurssen and can reach 1,000,000 euros per week for the largest vessels on charter. The advance provisioning allowance adds a further 30 percent. Despite the scale, the Lurssen philosophy is to make the yacht invisible as a machine so guests experience only the destination and the crew service.
