Every surface on the 22 Spyder is there to move air and water, not just to look fast.
The bow sections spread to throw spray clear of the deck, while the stern tapers with a muscular, gilled profile that echoes the hull steps visible along the waterline. A pronounced spray rail meets the wake cleanly as she comes off the plane, a small detail that keeps the cockpit dry in conditions that would soak an open boat with a flatter run. It is a design built by naval architect Johan von Koskull, whose sharp entry hull shape carries through every line above the waterline as well as below it.
A 20 degree deadrise and a sharp bow entry mean she cuts rather than slaps.
The twin stepped hull, inherited from Axopar’s larger models, gives the 22 Spyder confident handling well beyond what her length suggests, tracking straight and predictable through chop that would unsettle a lesser hull at this size. Relatively high freeboard keeps spray and following seas from becoming a concern, reassurance that matters when the boat is this open. On the standard 115hp outboard she is a relaxed 25 knot cruiser, and with the 200hp Verado fitted, she tops out at 40 knots without losing the composure that defines the rest of the range.
Configure her for a swim day or a sunset cruise. She changes shape to match the plan.
The aft cockpit is offered as an open package with a transom bench, a U shaped lounge, or a central sunpad, and an optional forward console seat extends usable space toward the bow. A swim platform, tow bar and drop down ladder make her equally at home towing a tube or picking swimmers back up after a dip. Tucked inside the forward console hatch is a genuine head and washbasin, an unusual find on a boat this size, and one that quietly extends what a 22 footer without a cabin can be asked to do for a full day out.
Building her small was harder than building her fast.
Axopar’s engineering team has described the 22 Spyder as the most demanding model in the range to design, tasked with fitting the functionality of a larger boat into a very small blueprint. A three part split mould construction allows the hull to be transported compactly, useful for an owner moving her between bases or shipping her to a new marina. Displacement of 1,200 kilograms keeps the trailering and launching straightforward, and the engineering underneath, from the stepped hull to the console layout, carries the same attention to detail found across the rest of the Axopar line.
At 65,000 euros, the 22 Spyder is an accessible way into a serious hull.
She is offered from a standard 115hp Mercury FourStroke, through a 150hp ProXS option to the 200hp Verado that unlocks her full 40 knot top speed. A 230 litre tank supports a 200 nautical mile range at her 25 knot cruise, and she carries up to eight day guests with no cabin or crew required. Naval architecture is credited to Johan von Koskull, with exterior and interior design handled by Axopar’s own studio and engineering by the in house team. For an owner who wants a compact, trailerable boat with real sea manners, she is difficult to fault at the price.
