Thirty knots at cruise, thirty five at the top. The 50 BF covers distance the way a sportfisher should.
Twin MAN V8 1300 diesels are the standard fit, with Caterpillar C18 and MTU 10V2000 offered as alternatives depending on an owner’s priorities between speed and economy. At cruise she holds 30 knots, enough to reach a canyon or a bank well ahead of a slower fleet, with 35 knots available when conditions and the moment both call for it. A 5,000 litre fuel capacity underwrites a 400 nautical mile range, enough for genuine offshore days without planning the trip around a fuel stop. Five blade propellers and a hull tuned for offshore work keep the ride settled at speed, with clean handling in reverse when a fish needs chasing rather than simply hooked.
The cockpit and the electronics package both say the same thing: this boat is built to find fish and stay on them.
A spacious cockpit carries large in deck boxes with genuine refrigerated and freezer capacity, a dedicated tackle centre and an elevated mezzanine that gives a clear view over the spread while someone else fights the fish. Forward, the helm runs a full electronics suite covering navigation, radar and satellite connectivity, enough to run tournaments or long offshore passages with equal confidence. Eight guests can be hosted comfortably by day, double the four who sleep aboard, which keeps the boat flexible between a full charter day and a quieter run with just the crew. Two crew are carried as standard, enough to keep a boat this size running properly without feeling overstaffed.
Two cabins built around comfort rather than excess, which is exactly the point on a sportfisher.
The master stateroom carries a walkaround queen with its own ensuite head, while the second cabin’s upper and lower berths cover crew or a second pair of guests without demanding extra length from the hull. The saloon pairs a raised dinette, with rod storage built in rather than added as an afterthought, against a portside lounge and a split galley that keeps cooking out of the way of traffic through the cabin. Walnut joinery and generous natural light carry the finish well beyond what the cockpit outside might suggest, a reminder that Viking builds comfort into its sportfishers rather than treating it as optional.
Below the bravado of the cockpit, the 50 BF is a genuinely liveable boat.
The split galley and raised dinette create a social hub that works whether the crew is planning tomorrow’s run or simply winding down after one, with natural light carried in through generous glazing rather than left to artificial fittings alone. The mezzanine seating above the cockpit doubles as an observation point when guests want to watch the action without being in the middle of it. Day capacity for eight guests means the boat scales comfortably from a serious fishing crew to a wider group for a day out, without the accommodation ever feeling like the limiting factor. It is a boat that rewards time spent aboard rather than just time spent running to the next spot.
A size up from the 46, and it shows in everything from range to rod storage.
At 15.2 metres with a 5.3 metre beam and a 1.4 metre draught, the 50 BF gives an owner meaningfully more boat than Viking’s smaller sportfishers without crossing into a different category of ownership. Naval architecture, exterior and interior design all come from Viking’s own in house design team, with engineering handled by Viking’s own department, keeping the boat consistent from hull to helm. A 400 nautical mile range and 35 knot top speed mean distant grounds are genuinely reachable in a single day, not just on paper. For an owner stepping up from a smaller Viking or buying their first serious sportfisher, the 50 BF offers real capability without unnecessary size.
