Climb to the Sky Bridge and you get the view back, without losing the shelter below.
The helm sits a level above an enclosed lower bridge, open to the air on three sides but covered overhead, giving the person driving a genuine 360 degree sightline while the saloon beneath stays sealed against spray and wind. It is Viking’s answer to owners who love the feel of an open flybridge but tire of running it in poor weather. Below, the enclosed saloon carries its own seating, climate control and entertainment, effectively doubling as a second gathering space when the main salon is full or the deck is too hot to sit on. The arrangement adds genuine flexibility without adding real complexity to the yacht.
From the waterline up, the 74 SB wears the same purposeful lines as every Viking before her.
She shares her hull and her cockpit with the 74 Convertible, so the fishing capability that built Viking’s reputation carries over intact: a broad transom, a deep cockpit and the structural bones of a genuine sportfisher. What sits above the gunwale is new. The raised Sky Bridge structure changes her profile, lifting the helm clear of the enclosed saloon roof and giving her a taller, more deliberate silhouette than either the open Convertible or the fully Enclosed Bridge model. The scale reads as confidence rather than bulk, a yacht clearly built to be driven hard as often as she is admired at the dock.
Four cabins and eight berths, laid out for a crew that fishes together and a family that cruises together.
Layouts are offered with queen berths throughout or with crossover arrangements in the lower cabins, and an owner who wants a dedicated rod and tackle room in place of a fifth sleeping space can specify one. The galley runs to either an open or a U-shaped configuration depending on how the owner entertains, feeding into a saloon finished with the high end joinery and fabric work Viking applies across the range. Two crew berths keep the boat properly staffed on longer trips without eating into guest space. It is an interior built for genuine use at sea, not just for photographs at the show.
Everything on the 74 SB is arranged around one working space: the cockpit.
It is large enough for serious tournament fishing, with storage and rigging space built in rather than added on, and it sits at the centre of a deck plan that moves naturally between cockpit, saloon and bridge. The flybridge level above carries its own helm station fitted with current navigation electronics, giving the captain a second full command position when visibility and conditions call for it. Guests move easily between the shaded cockpit, the air conditioned saloon and the open Sky Bridge above, each space doing a distinct job rather than duplicating the one below it. Few yachts this size manage that separation of purpose so cleanly.
The 74 SB is built to be specified around how an owner actually uses her.
She measures 22.5 metres overall on a 6.1 metre beam, drawing just 1.7 metres, light enough to reach anchorages a deeper hulled yacht would have to avoid. Twin MTU 16V2000 M96L engines come as standard, at 2,635 horsepower each, with twin MAN V12 engines at 1,800 horsepower or twin Caterpillar C32A units at 1,925 horsepower offered as alternatives. Cruising speed sits at 30 knots with a 40 knot top end, and range runs to 450 nautical miles on 9,000 litres of fuel. Naval architecture, engineering and design all come from Viking’s own in house teams, consistent with a yard that builds almost everything itself rather than outsourcing the parts that matter.
