Viking 64 SC Yacht Review

At sixty four feet, the Sport Coupe badge on this yacht stops being a styling choice and starts being a statement of intent. The Viking 64 SC pairs a serious offshore cockpit with a sheltered, glazed helm, and independent sea trials have shown her capable of speeds beyond 40 knots when specified with the right engines, a genuine step up from the standard specification underneath her. A 180 square foot cockpit, a mezzanine that hides a freezer and tackle storage, and a 90 gallon transom live well confirm where her priorities sit. Yet step up to the flybridge or down into the saloon and the 64 SC reads just as convincingly as a yacht for extended cruising, with accommodation for eight guests, a 50 inch saloon television and finishes in satin walnut throughout. Built almost entirely at Viking’s own New Jersey yard, she is a yacht for an owner who fishes hard, cruises further, and wants one hull capable of both.
Performance

Push the throttles forward and the 64 SC answers immediately.

Twin MAN V12 1550CRM engines come standard, giving a 30 knot cruise and a 40 knot top speed, with a 2000CRM MAN upgrade or a twin MTU V12 alternative available for owners who want more in reserve. Independent sea trials with the MTU option installed have recorded speeds beyond 40 knots, underlining how much headroom the hull carries above her standard specification. A 1.5 metre draught keeps her access to shallower water intact despite the size, and a 300 nautical mile range gives her the legs for a serious day’s run in either direction.

Engineering

Underneath the paint, this is where Viking’s engineering shows.

The hull is built from vinylester resin infused fibreglass over composite coring, with structural composite bulkheads and integrated, resin infused tankage built into the laminate rather than bolted on afterwards. Twin 21.5kW Onan generators run with a redundant placement option, a bow thruster adds close quarters control, and a Seakeeper 26 gyrostabiliser is available for owners who want flatter running at rest. Close to ninety percent of the hull is built at Viking’s own New Jersey facility, keeping construction quality under one roof from lamination through to delivery.

Exterior Design

She carries her size with purpose, not bulk.

At the helm, a centre console station finished in black acrylic houses three flush mounted touchscreen displays, with teaser reel controls built into the hardtop for serious trolling days. Up on the flybridge, three helm chairs sit ahead of a forward lounge built over a 76 gallon freezer, flanked by benches with their own storage and drink boxes. Down in the 180 square foot cockpit, corner scuppers clear water quickly and removable live wells make the space as practical as it is spacious, while a 90 gallon transom live well keeps bait fresh for a full day offshore.

Interior & Accommodation

Below deck, the 64 SC trades none of her offshore purpose for comfort.

The accommodation is arranged to sleep eight guests, led by a master stateroom built around a walk around bed for easy access on both sides. The saloon carries an L shaped sofa with its own storage beneath, a 50 inch television and cabinetry finished in satin walnut throughout, while the galley takes a peninsula layout with engineered stone counters and the option of a central island. Amtico flooring runs through the living spaces, practical underfoot and resistant to the wear a working sport fishing yacht expects, and a dedicated laundry centre sits conveniently along the companionway.

Ownership & Specification

She is Viking’s largest Sport Coupe, and every figure on her specification sheet reflects that ambition.

Designed and engineered in house, the 64 SC measures 19.5 metres on a 5.8 metre beam at a 41 tonne displacement, with twin MAN V12 1550CRM engines standard and MAN or MTU upgrades on option. A 1.5 metre draught, a 30 knot cruise, a 40 knot top speed and a 300 nautical mile range give an owner real choice over how she is run, while a crew of two keeps her properly supported for extended trips. For an owner who wants Viking’s sport fishing pedigree scaled up to genuine cruising volume, the 64 SC is the clearest expression of that idea in the current range.
