The Pickle Fork bow is the headline, but it is the detail around it that makes the XT22 feel bigger than her length.
Her all-new hull carries the Pickle Fork nose that has become a Master Craft signature, opening a forward lounge where older designs left a narrow walk-through. Vector Drive propulsion keeps the running surface clean and the wake flat behind her, while a reshaped transom and a cockpit backrest add usable seating without widening the footprint. At 2.6 metres across the beam and drawing just 0.8 metres, she sits low and purposeful on the water. Graphics are finished in Master Craft’s Infinite scheme, carrying the line from bow to stern rather than breaking it into panels, and the result reads as one continuous shape rather than a boat built around a list of features.
Thirty knots at cruise and forty at the top, from a hull built to flatter wakes rather than chase them.
The standard 6.0 litre Ilmor MPI drives through a vee drive geared at 1.57 to 1, tuned more for pulling power out of the hole than for outright top end. Owners who want more have 5.3 and 6.2 litre GDI options, both geared at 2.1 to 1 for sharper acceleration under a loaded ballast tank. Cruise sits at 30 knots, the top end at 40, and 246 litres of fuel carries her up to 300 nautical miles, a useful figure for a boat that spends as much time anchored and surfing as it does underway. The vee drive layout also keeps the engine weight low and central, which pays off the moment the ballast tanks fill.
A boat built around three moods, and the dash knows which one you are in.
A 10.1 inch touchscreen pairs with a 12 inch secondary display, and Master Craft’s Modal software switches the whole interface between drive, tow and chill settings, each one adjusting the information on screen and the audio balance to suit. The standard Klipsch system carries zone volume control and a built in equaliser, so the cockpit and swim platform can run at different levels for different crowds. An optional DockStar Handling System, a flanking rudder arrangement, turns close quarters manoeuvring from a guessing game into a simple nudge of the joystick. The standard ZFT2 tower folds flat on gas shocks for low garages, with the sturdier ZFT4 or the fully adjustable ZFT7 Power Tower available for owners who tow more seriously.
Everything that makes the surf and wake good starts below the waterline, not on the dash.
The hard sided ballast tanks hold up to 2,700 lbs, filling to give the optional Gen 2 Surf System three distinct wave zones to work with, each tuned for a different style of wake or surf. Running gear sits on a vee drive layout, keeping the engine’s mass low and inboard rather than out at the transom, which steadies the ride once the tanks are full and the stern sits deeper. The five year MasterCare protection plan backs the whole package, a sign of how much confidence Master Craft places in components it builds and finishes in house at its Tennessee facility.
Three hundred nautical miles is not a figure most owners will ever use in full, and that is rather the point.
A 246 litre tank and a cruising speed of 30 knots combine for a 300 nautical mile range, more than enough to cover a season of weekend trips without constant refuelling stops. The 0.8 metre draught matters just as much as the range figure. It opens up shallow coves and river mouths that a deeper hulled sportsboat would have to avoid, extending where the XT22 can actually go rather than just how far she can travel in open water. Together, the shallow draught and the efficient cruise setting make her as much a boat for exploring quiet water as one for towing on a lake.
