Master Craft XT22T Yacht Review

Not every MasterCraft wears the same bow. The XT22 T takes the XT line’s familiar running surface and swaps its sibling’s pickle fork nose for a traditional one, giving owners who prefer a classic profile the same performance underneath. She cruises at 25 knots and reaches 40 at the top end, powered by a 6.0 litre Ilmor V8 as standard, with 6.2 litre and 7.4 litre alternatives for owners who want more. MasterCraft builds her around the same SurfStar system as the rest of the XT range, using 3,020 pounds of ballast to shape wake and wave for riders from beginner to advanced. At 6.7 metres with day capacity for eight, she is sized for a crew that wants a quicker pace without stepping up to the larger X boats. For an owner who wants the brand’s surf engineering wrapped in a more traditional hull shape, she is exactly that.
Exterior Design

A traditional bow, built onto a hull proven on its pickle forked sibling.

Where the standard XT22 wears a pickle fork nose, the XT22 T carries a classic bow on the same running surface, giving her identical on water manners in a more conventional shape. An updated wraparound windscreen and refreshed hull side styling bring a cleaner profile to the deck, while a transom walkthrough keeps movement between cockpit and swim platform simple. It is a rare case of a builder offering the same engineering twice, once for owners who want the sharper modern look and once for those who prefer the hull MasterCraft has built its reputation on.

Performance

Forty knots on top, with a wake system that reads the rider rather than the other way round.

The XT22 T cruises at 25 knots and tops out at 40, with a 6.0 litre Ilmor V8 as standard and 6.2 litre and 7.4 litre alternatives available for owners who want more pace underfoot. MasterCraft’s SurfStar system draws on 3,020 pounds of ballast to shape wake and wave on demand, running from the same base as her sister XT22 and X22. Rider presets simplify the process of switching between a gentle wakesurf setting and a full wakeboard wake, so the boat adapts to the person behind it rather than asking them to adapt to her.

On Board

A cockpit built to stay comfortable well past the point most boats call it a day.

Triple density foam seats and moulded seatbacks run the length of a deepened cockpit, with an optional pop up seatback on the port side and a convertible rear bench for extra lounging. Heated captain and observer seats are available as an option, alongside cockpit heater vents, for riders who want to stay out once the sun drops. Transom lounge seating, optional backrests and cellphone cradles with available wireless charging round out the deck. At the helm, analogue gauges pair with a digital touchscreen as standard, while MasterCraft’s Connect app lets an owner check fuel, bilge and engine status from a phone.

Layout

Ten boards, stowed without a single one blocking the cockpit.

A U shaped seating arrangement opens into hinged storage beneath nearly every seat, supplemented by dedicated compartments beside the engine and a space built specifically for a cooler. Above deck, a standard Z6 tower carries clamping board racks, and a Bimini top with built in surf sleeves adds storage for up to six more, bringing total board capacity to ten. A flip down swim step at the transom keeps access to the water simple, and the layout as a whole favours a crew that is getting in and out of the boat all day rather than sitting still.

Range & Autonomy

A 200 nautical mile range, and ballast that fills faster than most riders can get changed.

Fuel capacity runs to 246 litres, giving the XT22 T a 200 nautical mile range for a full day of back to back runs. Her 0.8 metre draught keeps shallower coves and launch ramps within reach. The optional FastFill system fills and empties her ballast tanks in around four minutes at 30 gallons a minute, cutting the wait between a wakesurf set and a wakeboard pass to almost nothing. Backed by Ilmor’s own seven year, 1,000 hour engine warranty and MasterCraft’s five year MasterCare cover, she is built for owners who use a boat like this every weekend, not just on holiday.
