Porquerolles Superyacht Charter

Porquerolles is the largest and most beautiful of the Îles d’Hyères, a green and idyllic island lying off the Var coast between Toulon and Saint-Tropez. Protected as a national park and blessed with dazzling white-sand beaches and clear turquoise water, it offers one of the loveliest and most unspoilt anchorages in the south of France.

Much of the island is a protected national park, safeguarding fragrant pine forests, vineyards and a coastline of stunning beaches and clear coves. Its northern shore boasts long stretches of fine white sand lapped by brilliant turquoise water, while the wilder southern coast offers dramatic cliffs and hidden bays.

The island’s charming little village, gathered around a shady square with cafes and a small harbour, has a relaxed, almost tropical atmosphere, entirely free of cars. Bicycles and walking trails are the way to explore its beaches, vineyards and pine woods.

Ashore, the island offers excellent local wine, relaxed dining and a genuinely peaceful, natural atmosphere, a world away from the glamour of the nearby coast. Its unspoilt beauty is exceptional.

With its white-sand beaches, pine woods and turquoise water, Porquerolles is an idyllic French island escape. Guests can anchor off dazzling beaches, explore a protected national park and enjoy the unspoilt, tranquil beauty of this beautiful Mediterranean island.

Porquerolles Charter Guide

Everything you need to know before chartering a yacht in Porquerolles, from the best time to visit to where to drop anchor.
When is the best time to charter to Porquerolles?

The charter season along this stretch of the Var coast runs roughly May to September, with July and August the warmest but also the busiest, since the island is a popular day-trip destination from the mainland. June and September offer calmer water and far fewer day-trippers on the beaches and trails, while still giving warm enough conditions for swimming and time ashore.

What's the nearest airport to Porquerolles?

Toulon-Hyères Airport is the closest, a short drive from the ferry terminal at La Tour Fondue on the Giens peninsula, itself the main gateway to the island. Nice Côte d’Azur, further east, offers more international routes and is a common alternative for guests happy with a longer transfer. Since Porquerolles has no airport or car access of its own, every visitor, whether arriving by ferry or private yacht, reaches the island by water.

Where's the best place to anchor at Porquerolles?

Plage Notre-Dame, on the sheltered northern shore, is the most popular anchorage, protected from the Mistral and close to some of the island’s best beaches. Plage de la Courtade, nearer the village, suits a shorter stop with easy tender access to the shops and restaurants around Place d’Armes. Anse du Langoustier, tucked below the island’s two historic forts on the western tip, offers a quieter, more scenic alternative when the main beaches are busy.

How many days should you spend at Porquerolles?

One full day covers the essentials: a beach morning at Plage Notre-Dame or Plage d’Argent, a bike ride through the pine forest, and an afternoon tasting wine at Domaine de la Courtade. Guests keen on hiking the Circuit du Langoustier or exploring the wilder southern coast by tender often prefer two days, since the island rewards a slower pace than its small size might suggest.

Are there anchoring restrictions around Porquerolles?

Yes. As part of the Port-Cros National Park, the waters around Porquerolles are subject to reinforced regulations, including no-anchor zones in certain sectors and, in several areas, a requirement to use designated mooring buoys rather than dropping anchor freely. These rules exist mainly to protect the seabed’s Posidonia seagrass meadows, a slow-growing habitat easily damaged by chain and anchor. Captains should check current zone maps with the harbour office at La Tour Fondue or the national park authority before planning where to stop.
