Papua New Guinea Charter Itinerary

Papua New Guinea Itinerary

Papua New Guinea Yacht Charter
A week through the volcanic islands off Alotau in eastern Papua New Guinea, one of the least-visited and most rewarding cruising grounds on earth. This is genuine frontier exploration, pearl farms and traditional villages, kaleidoscopic reefs and near-empty anchorages. Expect rich culture and abundant marine life, jungle-clad isles and warm welcomes, a voyage far beyond the ordinary.

Every route we shape is a starting point, not a fixed schedule. Stay a second day where the light is right, move with the weather, or follow a captain to a quieter anchorage. What follows is one considered way to read it; the rest we tailor to you.
Day 1

Alotau

Board at the Driftwood Resort near Alotau, take light refreshments, then set sail into the island-studded waters. Anchor off a quiet shore for a first swim as the tropical light fades.
Day 2

Samarai Island

Enjoy a guided tour of a local pearl farm, where you can see the cultivation and buy high-quality pearls. Snorkel the surrounding reef, explore the historic island, and anchor in a sheltered bay.
Day 3

Basilaki

Anchor off the volcanic island of Basilaki, east of the Samarai group, with time to explore its jungle-clad shore and reefs. Snorkel the clear water, visit a village, and take in the wild scenery.
Day 4

Daiwari Island

Cruise twenty nautical miles north to Daiwari Island, a stunning islet of under a hectare ringed by coral. Anchor in the turquoise water, snorkel the reef, and laze on a scrap of perfect sand.
Day 5

Hiliwau

A short cruise brings the yacht back to the mainland at Hiliwau for a day of exploration. Head ashore to immerse yourself in village life and culture, then return to the yacht for the evening.
Day 6

Normanby Island

Cruise to Normanby Island, one of the largest of the volcanic D’Entrecasteaux group, cloaked in rainforest and hot springs. Explore ashore, snorkel a nearby reef, and anchor in a quiet bay.
Day 7

Engineer Islands

Head to the stunning Engineer Islands, known for their kaleidoscopic coral reefs. Anchor within a tropical lagoon, snorkel among the vibrant coral, and enjoy a day of remote island beauty.
Day 8

Driftwood Resort

After a final breakfast on deck, cruise back to the mainland and disembark at the Driftwood Resort. Take in the last of the scenery and toast a true week of exploration in Papua New Guinea.
