French Polynesia: The Marquesas Itinerary

French Polynesia: The Marquesas Yacht Charter
A week through the wild, remote Marquesas, the most dramatic islands in French Polynesia, where sheer green cliffs and basalt spires rise straight from the ocean. Far from the lagoons of Tahiti, this is raw, elemental Polynesia, home to Gauguin’s grave, wild horses and ancient sacred sites. Expect towering peaks and hidden bays, rich culture and near-empty anchorages, a voyage to one of the Pacific’s last frontiers.

Every route we shape is a starting point, not a fixed schedule. Stay a second day where the light is right, move with the weather, or follow a captain to a quieter cove. What follows is one considered way to read it; the rest we tailor to you.
Day 1

Nuku Hiva

Step aboard at Nuku Hiva, the largest of the Marquesas, its dramatic bays ringed by sheer green cliffs and towering peaks. Anchor in a deep bay, swim in the clear water, and take in the raw beauty.
Day 2

Anaho Bay

Cruise to the exquisite Anaho Bay on Nuku Hiva’s north coast, one of the few white-sand beaches in the Marquesas and among the most beautiful. Anchor in the calm, swim from the deck, and savour the seclusion.
Day 3

Ua Pou

Sail to the astonishing island of Ua Pou, whose dozen basalt spires rise like cathedral towers through the clouds. Anchor beneath the peaks, explore ashore, and marvel at one of the great sights of the Pacific.
Day 4

Ua Huka

Cruise to remote Ua Huka, a wild and arid island famous for its herds of wild horses and important archaeological sites. Watch the horses on the ridges, explore the ancient sites, and anchor in a quiet bay.
Day 5

Hiva Oa

Sail to Hiva Oa, the artistic heart of the Marquesas, where Gauguin and Jacques Brel are buried beneath the hills. Visit their graves and the ancient tikis, then return to the yacht for the evening.
Day 6

Tahuata

Cruise to the small island of Tahuata, blessed with the finest white-sand beaches and clearest water in the Marquesas. Anchor in a turquoise bay, snorkel the reef, and laze on the empty sand.
Day 7

Fatu Hiva

The voyage ends at Fatu Hiva, the most remote and spectacular island of all, anchoring in the breathtaking Bay of Virgins ringed by soaring green spires. Take a final swim and toast a wild week.
