Skopelos Superyacht Charter

Skopelos is the greenest and most beautiful of the Sporades, a lush island cloaked in dense pine forest and ringed by clear water and quiet coves. Unspoilt and wonderfully authentic, it offers a peaceful and scenic retreat that captures the timeless charm of the Greek islands.

The island’s main town is one of the loveliest in the Aegean, an amphitheatre of whitewashed houses, blue-domed churches and flower-filled lanes rising steeply above a picturesque harbour. With more than a hundred churches and a strong sense of tradition, Skopelos has a distinctive and captivating character.

Skopelos is famous for its beautiful pine-fringed beaches and clear coves, best explored from the sea, along with the iconic clifftop chapel of Agios Ioannis made famous by film. Its wooded hills, traditional villages and unspoilt beauty reward exploration ashore and afloat.

With its lush scenery, beautiful town and clear water, Skopelos is one of the most rewarding islands in the Sporades. Guests can anchor in pine-fringed coves, explore its lovely harbour town and enjoy the tranquil, traditional beauty of this green Aegean gem.

Whether anchored beneath its wooded hills or wandering the lanes of its beautiful old town, guests here experience the green and traditional heart of the Sporades at its most enchanting and unspoilt.

Skopelos Charter Guide

Everything you need to know before chartering a yacht in Skopelos, from the best time to visit to where to drop anchor.
When's the best time to sail to Skopelos?

May through September covers the main sailing season, with the pine forests keeping the island noticeably cooler and greener than its drier neighbours even in the height of summer. July and August bring the busiest ferry traffic and the warmest water, while June and September offer calmer harbours and similarly pleasant swimming conditions. The Meltemi affects Skopelos less than more exposed islands further south, since the surrounding Sporades break up much of the swell.

How do you get to Skopelos?

Skopelos has no airport of its own, so almost every visitor arrives by ferry, most commonly from Skiathos, whose Alexandros Papadiamantis Airport (JSI) lies about an hour away by boat. Year-round ferries also run from the mainland port of Volos, a crossing of roughly two and a half to four hours depending on the vessel. Many charter guests simply join their yacht already under way from Skiathos rather than travelling to Skopelos directly.

Where's the best place to anchor overnight at Skopelos?

Stafylos Bay, a short sail south of Skopelos Town, offers reliable shelter and a couple of tavernas built almost onto the sand. Panormos, further along the coast, is one of the most enclosed bays on the island and a popular alternative when the wind builds from the north. Skopelos Town’s own harbour puts guests within walking distance of the Kastro and the evening promenade, though it suits a shorter stop rather than a full night given the ferry traffic.

How many days are worth spending at Skopelos?

Two nights allow time to walk up through Skopelos Town to the Kastro, swim at Stafylos or Milia, and take a half-day trip to the clifftop chapel of Agios Ioannis. Skopelos combines naturally with Skiathos and Alonissos on a wider Sporades itinerary, and its position between the two makes it a convenient midpoint stop rather than a start or end base.

What food is Skopelos known for?

Skopelos has long been associated with plums, once dried and exported from the island in enough volume to support a small nineteenth-century shipping trade, and the fruit still appears in local jams and spoon sweets today. The island’s signature dish, however, is tyropita, a cheese pie rolled into a distinctive spiral rather than layered flat as elsewhere in Greece. Bakeries in Skopelos Town sell it fresh each morning alongside honey drawn from the island’s pine forests.
