ASAHI is a 56-metre performance cruising ketch built by Perini Navi and delivered in 2009, the last yacht launched in the first generation of the shipyard’s celebrated 10-vessel 56m series. Named after the Japanese word for morning sun, she carries a Perini pedigree matched with the distinctive interior vision of French designer Remi Tessier, whose Scandinavian-influenced minimalism earned ASAHI the Best Sailing Yacht award at the 2010 World Superyacht Awards and a ShowBoats Design Award for interior design in the same year.
Tessier’s interior is built around sleek neutrality: mahogany, wenge, ebony and textured leather used in clean, understated compositions that create what the designer himself described as a Zen-like atmosphere. The main salon spans eight metres wide by thirteen long and is flooded with natural light from its surrounding windows, centring on a formal circular dining table seating eight to twelve guests, with a curved bar alongside. A staircase amidships leads to the accommodation below, while a small office on the main deck forward gives guests a quiet working space away from the social areas.
ASAHI has been extensively maintained and improved throughout her life. Her 2019/2020 refit included major rig work, new LED lighting, window replacements and a new aft-deck layout. A further comprehensive 2023 refit replaced the entire galley, modernised the AV and IT systems, renewed the interior flooring, and finished the hull and stern in new paint. Her complete suite of Doyle sails was renewed in 2022, making her ready for serious bluewater sailing from the moment a charter begins.
Deck life on ASAHI is active and generous. The aft cockpit seats 12 for shaded al fresco dining, while the sun deck forward of the Jacuzzi offers cushioned lounge seating and panoramic views. A two-metre hydraulic swim platform makes water access easy, and ASAHI’s toy collection ensures there is always something to do: two Fliteboard e-foil Pro models, two Seabob F5S, an RS Aero sailing dinghy, kitesurf and wing-foiling equipment, surfboards, SUPs that double as windsurfers, wakeboards, waterskis, a mono ski and inflatable towables, all supported by a 12.4-metre Protector chase boat as primary tender.
Accommodation sleeps 12 guests across six cabins. The full-beam L-shaped master suite boasts a vanity area, sofa, large walk-in wardrobe and an en-suite bathroom with a full tub. Two VIP cabins, two twin cabins and a bunk cabin ideal for travelling with children complete the picture, giving ASAHI a family-friendly versatility to match her bluewater credentials. With a crew of 10 and twin Caterpillar engines delivering 16 knots at top speed, she divides her year between the Mediterranean and the Caribbean.
ASAHI won the Best Sailing Yacht at the 2010 World Superyacht Awards and a ShowBoats Design Award, establishing her as one of the finest 56m sailing yachts ever built.
Mahogany, wenge, ebony and textured leather create a calm, deliberately understated interior that feels luxurious without demanding attention.
The master suite features a king bed, a large walk-in wardrobe, vanity area and an en suite with a full bath tub.
As the final yacht launched in the original 10-vessel 56m series, ASAHI carries the full benefit of everything Perini Navi learned across the whole programme.
