BATON ROUGE is a 62.5-metre motor yacht built by the Dutch shipyard Icon Yachts and delivered to Lloydu2019s class in September 2010, with exterior styling by the legendary designer Tim Heywood and naval architecture by Jouke Van Der Baan and Kyp. At 1,425 gross tons, she remains, even today, the highest-volume yacht of her length in commission, packing the internal space of a noticeably larger superyacht into a profile that is every bit as iconic as her interior.
That interior, by Redman Whiteley Dixon, blends townhouse elegance with a deliberately relaxed beach house chic, finished with sculptured carpets, woven leathers and Brazilian blue marble. The result earned BATON ROUGE multiple finalist placings at the 2011 World Superyacht Awards and ShowBoats Design Awards, including nods for her interior design, interior layout and bespoke furniture, and the cool, comfortable vibe she was built around still defines the yacht today.
Deck life on BATON ROUGE follows a genuinely considered daily rhythm. Mornings begin with an energising workout in the gym or laps against the jets in the bridge-deck pool, before a long, leisurely breakfast on the bridge deck aft, flanked by sun pads on either side. The sun deck offers sunbathing space for the full charter party, anchored by a gigantic circular sun pad forward and quieter sun loungers aft, while a shaded lunch beneath the superstructure gives guests a cooler alternative through the heat of the day.
As evening approaches, the sophisticated main saloon becomes the natural spot for cocktails before the chef serves dinner either al fresco or in the formal main-deck dining room. At night, the sun deck transforms into a cool club space with its own light show, sound system and disco, while the panoramic observation lounge and library offer a quieter alternative for guests preferring a cognac and conversation over dancing.
Accommodation is genuinely impressive: 12 guests across seven en-suite cabins spread over three decks. The vast 100-square-metre master suite occupies the entire forward main deck, comprising two private offices, a dressing room, a separate vanity and a huge bathroom with a frosted glass rainfall shower and blue marble bath. Two VIP suites sit on the upper deck, while four further double cabins on the lower deck, two of which convert to twins, complete the accommodation.
BATON ROUGEu2019s beach club, directly accessible from several guest cabins, opens onto the water at sea level alongside a fully equipped gym for a quick cool-down after exercise. An extensive water toy collection includes Yamaha WaveRunners, a kite surfer, a SeaBob, waterskis, windsurfers and an 8-metre Yachtwerft Meyer limo tender, all supported by an RYA-approved training programme. A custom-built Jacuzzi with an integrated jet-stream system doubles as a workout space with its own sunbathing area.
Twin MTU engines give BATON ROUGE a cruising speed of around 13 to 14 knots, and her owner has run an active carbon-offsetting programme on her engines since 2012. With a crew of 16 to 18 on board, she splits her calendar between the Mediterranean in summer and the Caribbean in winter. Note: not available for charter to U.S. residents while in U.S. waters.
