Elba Superyacht Charter

Elba is the largest and most beautiful of the Tuscan islands, a green and mountainous gem set in the clear waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea between Corsica and the Italian mainland. With its sandy beaches, hidden coves and rich history, it is one of the most rewarding cruising grounds off the Italian coast.

The island offers remarkable variety, from pine-clad mountains and vineyards to a coastline of over one hundred and fifty beaches, ranging from golden sand to smooth pebbles and dramatic rocky coves. Its clear, colourful water is among the finest in the region for swimming and snorkelling.

Elba is also steeped in history as the place of Napoleon’s first exile, and his elegant residences can still be visited today. Charming ports such as Portoferraio and Porto Azzurro offer colourful harbours, good restaurants and a relaxed island atmosphere.

With its beautiful beaches, clear water and rich history, Elba combines natural beauty with genuine character. Guests can anchor in secluded coves, swim in crystal-clear water and explore a green and unspoilt island at the heart of the Tuscan Archipelago.

Elba Charter Guide

Everything you need to know before chartering a yacht in Elba, from the best time to visit to where to drop anchor.
When's the best time to charter a yacht around Elba?

Late May through September gives the warmest, calmest conditions in the Tyrrhenian Sea, with July and August the busiest and priciest around Portoferraio and Porto Azzurro. June and September offer quieter anchorages and water still warm enough for swimming, while ferry frequency from the mainland drops sharply outside these months, so shoulder-season charters should confirm crossing times in advance.

How do you get to Elba for a charter?

Most guests fly into Pisa or Florence airports on the Italian mainland, then either join the yacht directly at a mainland marina or take the roughly hour-long ferry from Piombino to Portoferraio. Elba’s own small Marina di Campo airport (EBA) has limited seasonal flights, mostly domestic, so it rarely suits international arrivals planning a charter.

Where are the best anchorages on Elba?

Golfo Stella on the south coast, near Marina di Campo, gives easy access to the island’s finest sandy beaches, while Porto Azzurro’s sheltered natural harbour suits an overnight stop with restaurants ashore. The coves around Capo Sant’Andrea and Fetovaia Bay on the west coast reward the detour with granite rock formations and exceptionally clear water for swimming.

How many days do you need to see Elba properly?

Three to four days lets guests combine Portoferraio’s Napoleonic sites with a swim stop at Fetovaia or Sansone and a visit to Porto Azzurro, while a full week allows time to circle the island slowly, hike part of Monte Capanne, and add a side trip to the old iron-mining village of Rio nell’Elba.

Can you actually visit Napoleon's house on Elba?

Yes. Both of his Elban residences are open to the public as the Museo Nazionale delle Residenze Napoleoniche: the Palazzina dei Mulini in Portoferraio, his main home during his 1814-15 exile, and the more rural Villa di San Martino a few kilometres outside town, later expanded with a neoclassical gallery by his nephew. Both can be reached by taxi from the harbour in under fifteen minutes.
