Boston Whaler reworked the 280 Outrage’s hull entirely for this generation, adding a flat running pad beneath the waterline that gets her onto the plane faster and keeps bow rise in check on acceleration. A 23 degree transom deadrise carries the ride through open water, and the shallow 0.5 metre draught still allows her into water a deeper boat would avoid. The interior above the waterline was redrawn around genuine customer feedback rather than a styling refresh, with every change aimed at making the boat simpler and more comfortable to run. The result is a hull that feels new rather than updated.
Independent trials have put her within a fraction of a knot of her own claimed 50 knot top speed, a close match rarely seen in this class.
At speed she is light and agile, sensitive to her Lenco trim tabs, which let an owner dial out the pounding that head seas can bring by easing back or angling slightly off the bow. Beam seas bring a smoother ride, with only occasional spray at full throttle, and in following seas she skims across the wave tops rather than burying her nose, a trait testers singled out as her natural element. Handling throughout was judged agile and predictable rather than demanding, the kind of boat that rewards confidence without punishing inexperience.
Twenty rod holders and a cockpit built for serious intent.
Five rocket launcher holders sit across the back of the hardtop, backed by under gunwale rod racks, flip down trolling seats on both sides and two 208 litre in deck fish boxes. Livewell capacity runs to a 20 gallon transom well and an optional 30 gallon unit in the leaning post, while stainless toe rails and nonskid decking the length of the foredeck keep footing secure underway. For family time, a forward lounge seat stores gear for two dive tanks, an aft facing bench seats four, and an optional pedestal table converts the bow into a full sun pad once dinner is cleared away.

A private head sits inside the console with 1.65 metres of headroom, a VacuFlush toilet and a pullout shower wand, while the helm carries twin 12 inch Raymarine displays alongside Mercury’s Precision Pilot, with Skyhook and Auto Heading available for holding a position without touching the wheel. A central cockpit hatch opens to a mechanical room housing the batteries, filters and bilge pumps, kept accessible rather than buried. A recessed bow windlass with a handheld remote and a recessed reboarding ladder with its own freshwater sprayer round out details that speak to how much thought went into daily use rather than the showroom.

Her 704 litre fuel tank supports a quoted range of 350 nautical miles, among the longest legs in her class, cruising at 30 knots and reaching 50 at the top end with the optional twin 350 Verados fitted. The standard twin 300 V8 AMS Verados already deliver genuine offshore pace, so the step up is about reserve rather than necessity. Day capacity runs to 10 guests, and naval architecture, exterior and interior design all come from the Boston Whaler Design Team, with the Boston Whaler Engineering Department behind the build.
