An all new hull, built to feel lighter on her feet than any Outrage before her.
Boston Whaler reworked the 330 from the keel up, giving her a variable deadrise hull with a flat running pad that cuts hole shot times, shortens the run to plane and keeps bow rise to a minimum under power. A 0.6 metre draught and freeboard running to 1.29 metres at the bow and 0.91 metres at the stern add up to a hull that is both shallow enough to explore and dry enough to trust in a chop. She debuted at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in November 2015, after earlier appearances at Newport, Norwalk, Atlantic City and Annapolis, and testers noted she handled differently to earlier Whalers: more agile, less planted, a boat that rewards a lighter hand on the wheel.
She skips rather than ploughs.
In head seas she rides light, skimming over waves rather than driving through them, and beam seas bring a more docile character that allows higher speed with confidence. Following seas are the most comfortable point of sail, the ride improving as speed builds. Testers found the optional automatic trim tab system could lean her into wind and waves in a beam sea, and preferred the boat with it switched off and trimmed by hand instead, a useful note for any new owner learning her character. The optional Mercury joystick piloting system, by contrast, drew praise for precise, confident handling at idle speed around the dock.
A genuine cabin, not an afterthought bolted beneath the console.
Below deck, a cabin sleeps two for an overnight at anchor, and the head alongside is sized to actually use: 1.78 metres of headroom inside a compartment measuring 1.23 by 1.27 metres. A standard VacuFlush toilet with a 25 litre holding tank and a moulded sink with a pullout sprayer, which doubles as a shower, complete a space that is compact but properly finished rather than merely functional. For a centre console built primarily for fishing, the ability to stay aboard overnight, however simply, sets the 330 Outrage apart from boats her size that offer a day out and nothing more.
Nineteen rod holders and a cockpit that still works for the whole family.
Five rocket launcher holders span the back of the hardtop, and the cockpit itself measures a genuine 2.4 by 1.3 metres, large enough to fight a fish without crowding the guests. A forward facing bench seats four at the bow opposite a double wide lounge, a standard 50 gallon transom livewell sits ready for bait, and a portside dive door with its own ladder makes getting in and out of the water straightforward rather than a scramble over the gunwale. An optional summer kitchen, with a grill, cooler and inverter, turns the cockpit into a genuine entertaining space once the rods come in.
The systems behind her are built for owners who actually use the boat, not just admire it.
Twin Mercury outboards, standard at twin 300 V8s and optional up to twin 400 V10s, are managed from a three across helm seat with individually adjustable bolsters and a choice of Raymarine displays. Mercury’s Precision Pilot, with Skyhook position keeping and autoheading, takes the strain out of holding station, while the optional joystick system handles close quarters docking with confidence. At the bow, a recessed windlass and a stainless anchor running through the stem keep the foredeck clear, and a reinforced tow eye means she can double as a tender for something larger. Naval architecture, exterior and interior design come from the Boston Whaler Design Team, with Boston Whaler Engineering behind the build.
