Galeon puts more than half of the 640 Fly’s superstructure in glass, a ratio that marked a real step forward for a yacht this size when the model first launched, and still reads as generous today. A sliding panel built into the windscreen opens a walkthrough from helm straight to the foredeck, then stows away electrically beneath the flybridge when it is not needed. New side platforms, six metres long and partly glazed, fold down from the cockpit at the touch of a button, and matching balconies open further aft, the port side working as a bar and the starboard side doubling as a breakfast counter connected straight through to the galley.

Twin Volvo Penta D13-1000 engines, 1,000 horsepower apiece, are the exact standard fitted and tested on this model, carrying the 640 Fly to 31 knots at the top and a cruising 23 knots, with a 350 nautical mile range from 3,800 litres of fuel and a 1 metre draught for easy inshore work. Power runs through shaft drives rather than pods, backed by bow and stern thrusters for close quarters handling, and owners wanting more can step up to the optional twin MAN V8-1200 package. Below deck, the engine room offers close to 1.8 metres of headroom between the engines, enough to carry out routine checks without crouching, and Galeon’s own engineering team keeps the layout tidy throughout.
Four cabins built for a family.
Two full doubles, each with its own ensuite, bracket a pair of twin cabins, giving the 640 Fly accommodation for eight guests without resorting to pullman berths or shared bathrooms. The owner’s cabin keeps its own private staircase opposite the lower helm, finished with marble effect surfaces and a rain shower in the ensuite, a quiet, separate world from the guest cabins below. Aft, the galley runs an induction hob, oven and a full size fridge freezer, built for a crew cooking for ten without feeling cramped. Forward, seating modules slide along runners and hi-lo tables shift from coffee to dining height, while glass panels set into the deck carry daylight down into the forward cabin below. The cockpit offers a choice of fixed seating or an optional turntable that folds away to reveal a tender garage, alongside a wet bar, a full size barbecue and a drop down blind for shade. Crew accommodation can sit in a two berth cabin beside the engine room, or convert to a lazarette for owners who run the yacht with a smaller team. Galeon extends the flybridge further aft than is usual at this size, wrapping a sweeping seating arrangement and a large sun pad around a bar fitted with a sink and a compact grill, with a retractable bimini available for shade when the sun gets high. A double helm up top uses bucket seats for the crew who prefer to drive from above. Down at the stern, the teak swim platform reveals its built in ladder only as it lowers to the water, keeping the transom clean when the platform is stowed.
