Hallberg Rassy 44 Mk II For Sale

Hallberg Rassy 44 Mk II Yachts for Sale

The Hallberg-Rassy 44 Mk II represents the next evolution of the acclaimed HR 44 center cockpit cruiser, arriving with 30 carefully considered improvements across exterior and interior. Designed by Germán Frers and built to CE Category A standards for unlimited ocean voyaging, this 13.68-meter sailing yacht combines Swedish craftsmanship with modern innovation.

Key Mk II enhancements include redesigned portlights for improved natural light, an upgraded swim platform, optional carbon rigging for weight savings and performance, a refined interior with horizontal grain woodwork, lowered bulkheads creating a more spacious feel below decks, and premium soft-closing drawers throughout. The hull and rig dimensions remain proven — the same 4.20m beam and 106.5 m² sail area (with genoajib) that made the original a transatlantic favorite.

Powered by the reliable Volvo Penta D2-75 (55 kW), the 44 Mk II offers comfortable cruising at 8 knots. With 420 liters of fuel and 745 liters of freshwater, she is well provisioned for extended passages. Two private cabins accommodate up to six overnight guests. Presented at the Hallberg-Rassy Open Yard in August 2026 as a 2027 model, orders are open now.

Hallberg Rassy 44 Mk II Yacht Review

Few yachts earn the right to be revised rather than replaced. The Hallberg Rassy 44 is one of them, and the Mk II is the result of three decades of ocean miles feeding back into a single, trusted hull. German Frers drew the original 44 and returns here to refine rather than reinvent her, working alongside Hallberg Rassy’s own team on a long list of changes aimed at light, comfort and performance below decks as much as above them. The hull, beam and sail plan that made her a transatlantic favourite are untouched. What has changed is everything an owner touches day to day: wider portlights, a reworked helm station, softer light through the saloon, and a swim platform built for actual use rather than appearance. Certified to CE Category A for unlimited ocean voyaging, she remains, above all, a yacht built to be sailed hard and lived aboard for weeks at a time. For a buyer who wants proven naval architecture over novelty, the 44 Mk II is where to look.
At Sea

She is not built to chase records. She is built to keep going.

A Volvo Penta D2-75, rated at 75 horsepower, carries her to a comfortable 8 knots under power, with 9.5 available when needed, and 420 litres of fuel stretch that to 500 nautical miles without a stop. Her draught runs to 2.1 metres, deep enough for the stability and tracking a serious cruising hull needs offshore. Under sail, the same 106.5 square metre genoa rig that made the original 44 a transatlantic favourite carries over unchanged, now joined by an optional carbon in mast furling system and an under deck electric furler for lightwind sails, with its own dedicated locker when they are stowed. CE Category A certification confirms what three decades of ocean passages have already proven.

Exterior Design

The changes are subtle until you look for them, and then they are everywhere.

Hallberg Rassy has enlarged the saloon and hull portlights and fitted them with tempered glass that resists scratching, bringing more natural light below without altering the yacht’s settled, seagoing silhouette. The deckhouse carries a gentle reshaping to match, and a new windscreen improves visibility from the helm in poor weather. On deck, the swim platform is wider and more comfortable than before, with handholds built into the fold out ladder rather than added as an afterthought. Even the instrument layout has been considered: there is now room above the sliding hatch for larger Raymarine Alpha displays, keeping navigation information in clear view rather than crowded into a corner.

Interior & Accommodation

Below decks, every change points the same way: more light, less clutter.

Lowered bulkheads between the saloon and adjacent spaces open the interior further than the original 44 allowed, and horizontal wood grain carries the eye along the hull rather than across it, making the whole cabin feel wider than its 4.2 metre beam suggests. Two private cabins sleep up to six guests, with white painted wooden panels and hidden fasteners in the sleeping cabins keeping the joinery crisp. A solid wood saloon table anchors the main living space, switch and fuse panels are now hidden rather than left on show, and the aft cabin seat has been redesigned for extra comfort where an island berth is fitted. Soleboard storage in the galley and the starboard cabin is easier to reach than before, a small change that matters on a long passage.

Engineering

The steering position is where the Mk II feels most changed.

A reworked pedestal with alloy links and a Corian top replaces the old helm furniture, giving a cleaner, more precise feel at the wheel. German Frers remains responsible for the naval architecture and exterior lines, while Hallberg Rassy’s own team handles the interior and engineering, the same division of labour that has defined the yard for decades. An optional carbon mast and in mast furling system cut weight aloft for owners who want sharper sailing performance without giving up the convenience of furling sails, and the standard rig remains proven across three decades of the 44 in service. It is evolution carried out by the people who understand the boat best.

Ownership & Specification

She was unveiled at Hallberg Rassy’s own Open Yard in Ellos during August 2026, and she is already open for order as a 2027 model.

At 13.7 metres on a 4.2 metre beam, with a displacement of 13.3 tonnes and a 2.1 metre draught, the 44 Mk II sits comfortably among serious bluewater cruisers rather than coastal weekenders. She sleeps six across two cabins and can host eight for the day, with berths for one crew member when owners prefer not to run her themselves. Hallberg Rassy builds in small numbers and sells on reputation rather than novelty, and the Mk II is unlikely to change that. For a buyer who wants a proven, Frers designed hull refined rather than reinvented, she remains one of the more considered choices in her size.
