Her silhouette borrows more from 1930s racing cars than from any yacht in her class.
Overmarine kept the hull and engine room of the original 165 Maxi Open and rebuilt everything above the waterline. Moving the master suite onto the top deck raised the superstructure, and the designers used that extra height rather than hiding it: black panelling, tinted glass bulwarks, a roll bar equipment carrier and sharp ventilation slits give her the look of a coupe rather than a cruiser. The curved lines Igor Lobanov drew soften what is, underneath, a genuinely aggressive shape, and the proportions read as athletic at anchor as well as underway.
Thirty four knots from a fifty metre hull is not something most shipyards attempt.
Four MTU 16V 2000 M96L engines, each rated at 2,600 hp, drive a mix of two Kamewa S4 and two Kamewa B4 waterjets rather than conventional shafts. Cruising comes easily at 30 knots, with 650 nautical miles of range from her 40,000 litre fuel capacity. A draught of just 2 metres keeps shallower anchorages within reach, and twin Veem gyro stabilisers hold the motion down at rest as well as at speed. Her designer has suggested owners will barely notice movement below 15 knots, a claim few yachts this fast can make.
Her owner now sleeps above the sea rather than beside it.
The master suite moved from the lower deck to the top of the foredeck, becoming a split level loft of around 92 square metres with a 1.9 metre ceiling, the full height the raised superstructure now allows. Five further cabins accommodate the rest of her 12 guests, and a crew of nine is housed forward on the lower deck, beneath where the owner once slept. The interior favours warm, cream toned finishes over anything colder, with mirrored surfaces and three skylights over the main saloon keeping the lower decks bright despite their depth.
The transom does not simply open. It performs.
A hydraulic door at the stern swings up like the roof of a convertible to reveal a 36 square metre beach club at sea level, with a side garage nearby for a tender and two jet skis. Forward, the foredeck carries an infinity pool and whirlpool across some 60 square metres, while the top deck adds a further 69 square metres with a bar and movable seating. Inside, folding side balconies open the saloon to the air, and a U shaped modular sofa sits opposite a dining table that seats ten in comfort.
Beneath the sports car styling sits a deliberately conservative engine room.
Rather than engineer a new platform from scratch, Overmarine kept the 165 Maxi Open’s proven fuselage and engine room layout, a hull that had already sold twelve units over a decade, and built the new superstructure on top of it. That decision lowered the risk on a genuinely ambitious performance brief: four engines and four waterjets delivering 34 knots from a 50 metre composite hull. The yard’s own engineering department also credits the redesign with fuel savings of around 30 per cent against the model she replaces, achieved without reducing power.
