Master Craft NXT23 Yacht Review

The NXT line keeps climbing in ambition, and the NXT23 is where it starts to feel genuinely considered rather than merely entry level. She carries Master Craft’s SurfStar ballast and wake shaping system, a seven inch touchscreen that calls up wakeboard, wakesurf and even wake foil settings in a few taps, and, in her Icon specification, a level of finish more usually reserved for boats a size above her. A 373hp Ilmor 6.0 litre engine, the same unit proven across the range, carries her to a 40 mph top speed and a 25 mph cruise, with up to a 7.4 litre V8 available for owners who want more reserve. Fourteen guests can come aboard, and every control, from the tower to the ballast, is built to be managed by one person without help from the dock. Built in Vonore, Tennessee alongside the rest of the range, she is the NXT model for a buyer who has outgrown a starter boat but still wants Master Craft’s most accessible pricing.
Exterior Design

A single sheerline does more for her presence than any badge could.

The NXT23 carries a hybrid bow and Master Craft’s signature sheerline, a profile shared across the brand but drawn tighter at this size. In Icon specification she gains black badging, SeaDek decking and tower accents, and RGB ring and underwater lighting that turns a simple anchorage into something worth noticing after dark. The Z6 tower folds with locking levers that one person can manage alone, a detail that matters more on the water than in a showroom, and clamping racks keep boards secured without extra hardware cluttering the silhouette.

Performance

Three Ilmor engines are on the options list, and the smallest of them is already enough.

The standard 373hp, 6.0 litre Ilmor MPI produces 407lb-ft of torque through a V drive transmission, carrying her to a 40 mph top speed and settling to a 25 mph cruise for everyday towing. Owners wanting more reserve can step up to a 6.2 litre GDI engine or, at the top of the range, a 7.4 litre V8, both aimed at heavier ballast loads and a faster time to plane rather than outright top speed. It is a lineup built around consistency: whichever engine is fitted, the boat behind it handles the same way.

Engineering

The engineering that matters most here never gets wet.

A SurfStar ballast system carrying up to 3,130 pounds of water reshapes the wake on demand, called up through a seven inch touchscreen with three factory presets for wakeboarding, wakesurfing and wake foiling, plus a custom setting for a rider who wants to tune it by hand. Away from the water, the Master Craft Connect app lets an owner check the boat’s systems remotely and shut off the battery from a phone, useful at the end of a season or simply overnight at the dock. Every NXT23 is built in Vonore, Tennessee, alongside the rest of the range, keeping production and quality control under one roof.

Layout

Fourteen guests have somewhere proper to sit, not just a cushion to share.

Underseat storage runs through the cockpit with a dedicated spot kept for the cooler, and owners who spend long days in the sun can specify CoolFeel vinyl, which stays noticeably cooler to the touch than standard upholstery. A convertible flip seat lets a passenger turn to face backward and watch a rider directly, and a flip down swim step lowers the boarding height for anyone coming out of the water rather than off the dock. A standard Klipsch sound system carries across the whole cockpit, so conversation never has to compete with the stereo at either end of the boat.

Range & Autonomy

She is not built for long passages, and she does not pretend otherwise.

With 208 litres of fuel on board, the NXT23 is rated for 150 nautical miles, comfortably more than a full day of towing and running between coves demands. A 0.8 metre draught keeps her out of trouble in shallow water that a deeper hulled boat would have to avoid, which matters as much to her range of useful anchorages as any fuel figure does. This is a boat built around a lake, a cove or a short coastal run rather than a crossing, and every number on her specification sheet points the same way.
