Thirty six knots at the top, twenty five at cruise, enough to keep every watersport on the schedule moving.
Power starts with a 6.0 litre Ilmor MPI engine as standard, stepping up through a 6.2 litre GDI and a 7.4 litre MPI for owners who want more pull behind a loaded wakeboard run. Total ballast runs to 3,800 pounds, adjusted straight from the touchscreen rather than a separate panel, and SurfStar’s adjustable plates reshape the wave to order, with an on-screen diagram showing exactly how each change alters the break. Fuel capacity of 246 litres supports 150 nautical miles of range, enough for a full day of towing plus the run home. The result is a boat tuned as precisely for wakesurfing as it is forgiving for a first time rider finding their line.
A frameless windshield is the detail that marks the X22 out at a glance.
Only the port and starboard edges carry a frame, a choice that measurably reduces the blind spot a solid screen would create and gives the helm a cleaner sightline over the bow. The hull keeps MasterCraft’s signature sheerline, dipping from bow to transom before rising again at the hip, drawn tighter here than on the larger X24 that inspired it. At 2.6 metres beam and 0.8 metres draught, she handles easily in a marina berth and reaches shallow water a longer hull would avoid. The new Z9 tower collapses at the push of a button and carries hanging hooks for towels and life jackets, a small practical touch that keeps the cockpit tidy between runs.
Sixteen guests fit comfortably within a 22 foot footprint, and nothing about the layout feels compressed to get there.
Armrests are built into the gunwale wells rather than added on top, and the cubbies beneath them are lined in woven fabric rather than bare fibreglass. Transom seating uses dual lounger style chairs with oversized flip up backrests, while cascading steps from both the swim platform and the cockpit keep guests off the upholstery as they move through the boat. A new captain’s chair anchors the helm, and under seat cubbies are fully carpeted rather than left raw. Board storage uses padded sleeves that slide out on tracks beneath the transom seats and can be removed entirely for towing, alongside dedicated compartments either side of the walkthrough for wet ropes and vests.
A low profile dash hides serious technology behind a clean sightline.
A 15 inch panoramic screen sits above the wheel, paired with a 12 inch touchscreen mounted vertically to the right, both controlled in part by a rotary command dial beside the throttle so the captain rarely needs to touch a screen underway. Wireless phone chargers are built into the cockpit, and an optional touchscreen at the observer seat gives a second set of hands control over audio and lighting. The Z9 tower carries Meridian speakers as standard, with the optional MAAX transom audio system available as part of the same package for owners who want sound to carry the full length of the boat.
A compact, well specified entry point into MasterCraft’s X line, built to carry the family’s pedigree into a smaller footprint.
At 6.7 metres LOA on a 2.6 metre beam and 0.8 metre draught, with 246 litres of fuel and 150 nautical miles of range, the X22 covers a full day on the water without returning to the dock. She seats sixteen guests, carries MasterCraft’s in-house design work and the Master Craft Engineering Department’s input throughout, and is built in Vonore, Tennessee alongside the rest of the range. For an owner who wants genuine wake sports performance, modern technology and a finish that holds its own against larger boats, all in a hull easy to trailer and berth, the X22 makes a strong and practical case.
