Thirty knots at cruise and forty five at the top, the Pied-A-Mer does not hang about.
Standard power comes from twin MAN V12 1550 diesels, with a quad Mercury Verado 600 outboard package or twin Caterpillar C32 inboards available for owners who want to tune the character of the ride. At a 1.2 metre draught, she clears skinny water that would stop a conventional yacht of this length. Four thousand five hundred litres of fuel give her a 400 nautical mile range at cruise, enough for a serious run between anchorages without refuelling. Every hull is semi custom, so an owner who wants a different balance of speed and comfort can have it built in from the start.
She reads as a raceboat until you notice the cabin windows.
A low, aggressive sheer and a stance built for speed gave the first hull plenty of attention when she debuted at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. On deck, a custom grill folds away into a wide aft lounger at the push of a button, with two sofa style loungers facing each other just forward of it. A triple wide helm seat and a U shaped settee around the bow complete a deck plan built for a crowd. Between the bow and the cockpit she comfortably seats seventeen, with lounging space for five more, proof that a performance hull does not have to mean cramped socialising.
Below deck, the Pied-A-Mer quietly becomes a yacht.
Two staterooms, each with a queen berth, sleep four guests in genuine privacy rather than squeezed into a vee berth as an afterthought. A stand up head with a separate shower, a settee and a full galley complete the cabin, which gives an owner and guests proper comfort for a weekend away rather than just a few hours. The design below deck mirrors the confidence of the exterior: sharp, angular lines throughout, broken only by one curved bulkhead that separates the head from the rest of the accommodation. Triangular, rectangular and oval windows, along with multiple skylights, keep the space bright rather than cave like, an unusual achievement in a hull built first for speed. By day she hosts twelve guests comfortably, with a single crew member aboard to handle the details.
Her construction is as considered as her lines.
The hull is resin infused rather than hand laminated, a technique rare at this length that produces a lighter, stiffer structure with none of the excess resin that adds dead weight. A core of high density foam runs throughout, reinforced with extensive carbon fibre in load bearing areas. A twin stepped hull reduces wetted surface at speed, translating the engineering below the waterline into the sharp handling her raceboat lineage promises. The result is a composite structure built to the same standards as the sportfishing and raceboats that built Midnight Express’s reputation, applied here to a yacht an owner can also sleep aboard.
She is built to order, and priced accordingly.
A new Pied-A-Mer carries a price of 2,450,000, a figure that moves with whichever engine package and level of customisation an owner specifies. Naval architecture, exterior styling and interior design all come from the in house Midnight Express Design Team, with construction handled by the yard’s own engineering department, so every element of the build answers to a single point of accountability. At 18.3 metres with a 4.9 metre beam, she carries twelve day guests, four overnight and a single crew member, a configuration built around an owner who wants to run the boat with a light footprint. For a buyer drawn to raceboat performance who still wants a proper cabin to retreat to, the Pied-A-Mer is a considered, singular choice.
