Everything at the helm answers to a single button when it is time to surf.
Instead of ballast tanks or trim plates, the 38 Surf uses her twin Volvo Penta forward drives against each other, one thrusting forward and the other back, to build a wave on either side at the push of a button. A rear facing camera built into the hardtop shows the wake on the helm display so the driver never has to turn around, and trim adjustments reshape the wave’s size for different riders. The wave itself runs longer than on most dedicated surf boats, enough that Regal recommends a longer tow rope than usual. At typical wakesurfing speed, in the region of ten to eleven knots, her scale can feel like a lot of boat to be riding behind at first, though most riders settle into it within a set or two.
A centre helm and starboard steps to the bow free up real space below deck.
That layout decision is what allows the 38 Surf to carry a genuine cabin rather than a token one, and it keeps the deck itself open and easy to move around. A large windscreen gives clear sightlines forward, with a sunroof built into the hardtop above, and an integrated powered shade means shelter from the sun does not have to mean losing the view. The wide open transom, possible because twin forward drives sit beneath the hull rather than outboards hung off the back, gives her a clean, uncluttered stern that most boats her size with outboard power simply cannot match.
Below deck, she sleeps four in genuine comfort, not just in a pinch.
An air conditioned cabin holds forward and midberth settees that convert into queen size berths, enough for two cabins and four sleeping guests, alongside a full head with a walk-in shower rather than a marine toilet squeezed into a corner. A skylight brings natural light into a space that on most boats this size would feel enclosed, and the trim and finish throughout carry the same attention as the deck above. With a crew berth for one, she can genuinely be left aboard overnight between days on the water, a rare claim for a boat built first and foremost to wakesurf.
A refreshment island aft of the helm turns the cockpit into a proper place to entertain, not just to launch from.
Dual refrigeration, a grill, a sink and dedicated storage sit within reach of a separate touchscreen that controls audio, lighting, the powered lounge and the swim platform independently of the helm. The main lounge bench turns to face forward or aft, folds flat into a sun pad, and slides out over the swim platform at the push of a button, while dual dive doors and insulated lockers on both sides double as coolers when they are not holding gear. A power platform beneath the swim step extends to work as a boarding step or a shaded seat just under the surface, useful after a dive or between sets on the water.
Three hundred nautical miles puts a genuine cruising weekend within reach, not just an afternoon on the water.
The standard twin 430hp Volvo Penta forward drives give her the power to cover that distance at a 25 knot cruise, with a 45 knot top end in reserve for the return leg. Owners who prioritise efficiency over outright pace can specify the 380 or 300hp twin options instead, trading some top speed for a lighter load on the fuel tank. Either way, the forward drive layout that builds her surf wave is the same system carrying her between anchorages, diving and fishing grounds, and the marina, one set of engines doing double duty rather than compromising on either job.
