A 2,500 pound ballast system, backed by a Yacht Certified hull rated for serious passenger loads, gives the LS9 Surf the scale to build a genuinely large wave rather than a modest one. Trimming up the Volvo Penta Forward Drive adds a further 1,100 pounds of wave making ballast when a rider wants more. Twin Surf Tabs on the transom shift the wave from side to side and double as ordinary trim tabs the rest of the time, nudging the running angle to offset a full cockpit or a change in conditions. The standard 350hp Volvo V8 still cruises at 30 knots and reaches 40 at the top end, a pace that feels composed rather than strained given her size.

The FasTrac hull underneath is shaped to find speed with less horsepower than a conventional hull would need, and the same thinking carries through above the waterline. A power hardtop lowers for bridges and keeps guests dry when the weather turns, folding away without demanding a separate soft top. Forward Drive moves her pivot point ahead of the usual sterndrive position, so she turns from directly beneath the helm rather than pivoting from the back, a trait that shows up as calmer, more predictable handling at speed. Nothing about her profile is there purely for show. Every line on the LS9 Surf answers to the wave, the weather or the water underneath her.

Helm and passenger backrests flip forward to face the cockpit, and port and starboard couches run straight into the Ultra Lounge aft, whose own backrests can face the cockpit or the swim platform depending on the moment. A transom walkover down the centreline keeps the boat walkable from bow to stern without disturbing anyone seated, and the swim platform sits nearly a metre deep at the waterline, about as easy a step from the water as a boat this size offers. The bow holds deep, plush seating of its own, and underseat storage throughout is sized for multiple boards rather than one.

The standard 350hp Volvo V8 is tuned to make the most of that range without sacrificing the speed needed to reach the surf spot quickly, cruising at 30 knots when the ballast tanks are empty and the boat is running light. Owners who want more top end can step up to the 380 or 430hp options, trading some efficiency for sharper acceleration out of the hole. Either way, the FasTrac hull’s efficiency gains mean the LS9 Surf asks less of its engine than a conventional hull of the same size and weight, stretching whatever is left in the tank a little further on the way home.

Regal’s own in-house team handled naval architecture, exterior and interior design, with the in-house engineering department responsible for the systems that make the surf hardware work together. Dual 12 inch touchscreens at the helm run Water Sport Control, storing individual presets for speed, ballast and tabs so riders do not have to retune the wave each time they swap. Digital switching removes much of the physical wiring from the dash, controlling cabin lighting and the power hardtop from the same screens. For an owner moving up from a smaller Surf model, the LS9 Surf offers a noticeably bigger wave and a noticeably bigger boat, without adding real complexity to running her day to day.
