Twelve guests, no crew required, one straightforward boat to run.
The 42 XO is built around outboard propulsion from the keel up, which keeps her mechanically simpler than an equivalent sterndrive or inboard cruiser and easier for an owner to operate without a crew aboard. The cockpit doubles as a genuine entertaining space, with a grill station built around an integrated electric smokeless grill, a solid surface cover and an under counter refrigerator. A Fusion ANT wireless stereo system follows the party around the boat, reaching the transom and swim platform as easily as the saloon, so the entertaining never has to stop at the cockpit door.
The roof moves so the deck does not have to choose a mood.
A full beam retractable hardtop opens the upper saloon to the sky in seconds, and opening side windows with sliding glass doors fold the saloon and aft patio into a single connected space when it is down. Outboard propulsion keeps her draught to just 1.1 metres, shallow enough to reach anchorages a sterndrive boat of the same length would have to pass by. The result is a profile with real presence that still handles, and anchors, like something considerably smaller.
The aft stateroom is the largest in her class, and it is built to prove it.
A full size king bed converts to two twins when needed, with genuine walk-around space on both sides, something few 42 foot yachts manage in an aft cabin. The standard en suite head is finished in premium materials with a separate walk-in shower, and owners can specify either a second head or a lower refreshment centre in its place, depending on whether privacy or convenience matters more for how the boat will be used. Two cabins sleep six guests in total, a notably higher capacity than most yachts of this length offer.
Regal lets the second cabin’s purpose shift with how the boat is actually used.
Where a second head would normally sit, owners can instead specify a lower refreshment centre, trading an extra bathroom for a dedicated spot to keep drinks and snacks within reach of the cabins. Upstairs, opening side windows and sliding glass doors fold the saloon and aft patio into one uninterrupted space, so guests move between indoors and out without a step or a door in the way. It is a layout built around how owners actually spend a day aboard rather than around a fixed plan.
An outboard hull that still carries genuine cruising range.
She holds 1,136 litres of fuel for a range of around 300 nautical miles, enough to turn a day out into a proper cruise rather than a there and back run. Her 1.1 metre draught keeps shallow anchorages within reach throughout that range, an advantage a sterndrive boat of the same length does not have. Built to carry twelve guests by day and six overnight across two cabins, with no crew required to run her, the 42 XO is designed around an owner who wants to operate the boat personally. Naval architecture, exterior and interior design stayed in house with Regal’s own team, and the engineering carries the yard’s own name as well.
