Twin Mercury Verado outboards, up to 400 horsepower a side, do the work sterndrives once did.
The standard 300 horsepower Verados give a cruising speed of 25 knots and a top end of 35 knots, in line with the sterndrive Sundancer 320 despite the very different propulsion. Where the outboard setup pulls ahead is efficiency and range, an 850 litre fuel capacity, nearly 300 litres more than the sterndrive version carries, extends her cruising range to 200 nautical miles. A 0.9 metre draught keeps access to shallow anchorages and marinas easy, and outboard power simplifies servicing considerably, since the engines sit outside the hull rather than inside an engine room. For owners who cover real distance rather than staying close to a home marina, that range advantage is the headline number.
An open deck layout replaces the engine box a sterndrive hull would need.
Without an inboard engine room to build around, Sea Ray has given the Outboard version a genuinely open deck plan, with a wet bar and a retractable sunshade extending the time guests spend outside rather than below. The profile reads cleaner aft, where twin outboards sit on the transom instead of a sterndrive bulge, and the swim platform gains usable width as a result. It is a different visual language from the sterndrive Sundancer 320, lower, wider and more deck focused, built around the idea that most of the day will be spent above the waterline rather than below it.
Twelve day guests fit comfortably, four more than her sterndrive sibling manages.
The open deck plan that outboard power makes possible translates directly into guest capacity, with seating and lounging space built to handle a genuine crowd rather than a couple and their friends. The wet bar anchors the social side of the layout, while the retractable sunshade means the whole deck stays usable through the hottest part of the day rather than forcing everyone into the cabin for shade. It is a layout built around entertaining on the water first, with the single cabin below there to extend the day into an overnight stop rather than to serve as the main living space.
One cabin, two berths, and just enough comfort for an unplanned night aboard.
The convertible V berth forward and a separate mid berth give the Sundancer 320 Outboard genuine sleeping space for four, more generous than the single cabin count might suggest. A well equipped galley handles simple meals, and the head offers full standing headroom rather than the cramped arrangement common on boats this size. None of it is designed for extended time aboard, and the layout makes that clear, this is accommodation for the night the day trip runs long, not a cruising boat pretending to be a day boat. For her intended use, that is exactly the right amount of cabin.
An 850 litre tank and 200 nautical miles of range set her apart from the rest of the Sundancer 320 line.
Outboard propulsion frees up hull volume that would otherwise house an engine room, and Sea Ray has used much of it for extra fuel capacity rather than cabin space. The result is a genuine range advantage, 200 nautical miles at cruise against 140 for the sterndrive version, on a hull of the same overall length and beam. That extra range matters for an owner who wants to cover real distance between fuel stops, whether cruising along a coastline or making longer crossings between islands. Combined with straightforward outboard maintenance and a shallow 0.9 metre draught, the Sundancer 320 Outboard is built for owners who value genuine range and easy upkeep over sterndrive refinement.
