The Enigma 59 is the second largest of Steeler’s steel displacement yachts, and the model where the yard’s willingness to build one hull at a time shows most clearly. Eighteen metres, three cabins, and an interior drawn to the owner’s brief rather than to a catalogue.

Under the joinery it is a serious cold-water boat. Hull and superstructure are steel, insulated with thermal foam and glazed with double insulated units, and displacement sits at 46 tonnes on a 5.50 metre beam. Draft is 1.50 metres, which keeps the Dutch and Baltic canal network open, and CE category A covers the offshore legs between them.

Range comes from tankage rather than speed. A pair of Volvo Penta D6 diesels at 300 hp each is modest power for 46 tonnes, and that is the intent: 6,000 litres of fuel and 1,500 litres of fresh water on a hull that does not have to be pushed. Steeler publishes no speed figures for this model, which tells you plainly what it is for.

Accommodation runs to three cabins served by two heads including a day head. The renders show the main deck as one connected space, galley, dinette and inside helm together, with the forward view a raised wheelhouse gives and side decks wide enough to walk in weather.

Buyers who actually cross the North Sea in shoulder season, rather than read about it, tend to end up on a boat like this one.
