A single 1.8 litre Yamaha waterjet pushes the VQ16 to 50 knots.
Cruising speed sits at a lively 25 knots, quick enough to feel every bit of her five metre length working. Vanquish offers a second engine option, a 250hp unit in place of the standard 200hp, for owners who want an even sharper top end. The waterjet does more than add speed: with no exposed propeller beneath the hull, she can run confidently through shallows and close to swimmers, conditions a shaft driven tender would need to avoid altogether.
She carries Vanquish’s signature profile down into a genuinely small hull.
Built in fibreglass at 5.1 metres length and 1.7 metres beam, the VQ16 keeps the low, purposeful stance found across the range, with none of the bulk that usually comes with a boat this compact. The waterjet is built flat into the hull rather than protruding beneath it, a detail that lets her stow easily in a larger yacht’s tender garage when she is not out on her own. Vanquish’s own design team shaped every surface in house, giving her a coherence that many small tenders lack.
Five guests and open seating are all the VQ16 needs to earn her place.
There is no cabin and no pretence of one. The layout is built entirely around the driving experience and the guests riding along with it, with bench seating positioned to keep everyone secure when the throttle opens up. At just 0.2 metres of draught, she reaches beaches and shallow coves a full sized tender cannot approach, making her as useful for exploring a coastline as she is for the thrill of the run itself.
Everything about the VQ16 is built around one engine doing its job well.
Vanquish’s in house team handled both the naval architecture and the engineering, keeping the waterjet, hull and layout developed as a single package rather than assembled from outside suppliers. At just 675 kilograms of displacement, she stays light enough for a 200 to 250hp engine to deliver genuine performance rather than simply moving weight. No crew is needed to run her: she is designed to be driven directly by her owner, in keeping with her role as the quickest, most hands on model in the range.
The smallest Vanquish, and in some ways the purest expression of the brand.
Built entirely in house, the VQ16 shares its design language and engineering philosophy with every larger model in the range, scaled down rather than simplified. She suits an owner who already has a larger yacht and wants a fast, self driven companion to it, as much as a first time buyer drawn to the smallest possible entry into the collection. With no cabin, no crew and a five metre footprint, she asks for nothing beyond an afternoon and a stretch of open water to prove her point.
