SOUL is a 20 metre Azimut Magellano 66, an Italian motor yacht delivered in 2022 and built around a different idea from the sporty flybridge boats that fill her size range. The Magellano is Azimut’s sea kindly cruiser, a dual mode hull with a tall bow and an easy, planted ride that is happy at a gentle displacement pace or lifting onto the plane when the day calls for it. For a couple or a small family who want a comfortable, characterful boat that puts calm days on the water ahead of outright speed, with six guests across three cabins, she is a well judged and welcoming choice.
Her point of difference is that easy, capable hull. Where a pure planing yacht wants flat water and a short hop, the Magellano is content to cross open water in comfort, so a week aboard is not tied to the forecast and the longer runs between anchorages stay relaxed. She can still pick up her skirts and cruise quickly when the sea is kind, but her real gift is steadiness, the quality that keeps meals, conversation and sleep undisturbed whatever the water is doing outside.
Inside, the mood is warm and modern. The main salon carries an L-shaped sofa and a media wall under wide windows that keep the sea close on both sides, opening aft to the cockpit at anchor, and a round dining nook sits within the same space beneath a soft light, an intimate corner for the whole party to eat together. The galley sits forward beside the lower helm, well fitted in pale surfaces and dark stone, so the yacht can be run and cooked in from the same bright, sea facing deck.
On deck she is laid out for the long Mediterranean day. The flybridge is the social top of the yacht, a dining table and soft seating under a bimini with the helm to hand and a long view over the anchorage, and the aft cockpit sits a step above the sea for shaded meals by the water. The foredeck runs forward to the bow with sun pads and the pulpit ahead, a quieter corner away from the group, so there is always the right spot for the sun, the shade or a meal as the day turns.
Accommodation is for six guests across three cabins, all with their own bathrooms. The full beam master sits low in the hull with hull windows and a soft armchair alongside the bed, the VIP takes a comfortable double with a television and good light, and a further guest cabin completes the layout, all finished in the same warm, modern palette. The mix suits two or three couples travelling together, or a family who want the children close but comfortable in a cabin of their own.
Her home water is the Amalfi Coast and Sardinia, and she is well matched to it. From Capri, Ischia and the Amalfi villages across to the granite anchorages of the Costa Smeralda, the coast is at its best from the water, the anchorages sit close together and the towns come alive after dark, while her steadiness makes the longer crossings easy. With her sea kindly hull, her flybridge and her warm modern interior, SOUL offers a relaxed and characterful way to cruise some of the loveliest coastline in Italy at a price that leaves room for the rest of the holiday.
