Whisper

Few yachts have been photographed as often as this one. Delivered by Lürssen in 2014 as Kismet, she spent a decade as one of the most recognisable charter yachts afloat before being sold, renamed Whisper and returned to the market. The name is new. Everything that made her worth booking is not.

At 95.2 metres she sits in the band where a yacht stops being a large boat and starts behaving like a small resort, and Espen Oeino’s exterior uses the length properly. The deck stack steps back rather than piling up, so every level gets sky and sea rather than a view of the deck above it. Reymond Langton handled the interior, and it is warm where a boat this size is usually cold: marble, rare veneers, hand-worked metalwork and a double-height volume amidships that most yards would not attempt.

Her signature is water. A swimming pool runs across the main aft deck with a glass wall that lets you look straight through it from the teak, and it is deep enough to swim in rather than stand in, a stainless cascade spilling from it to the deck below. A separate mosaic tub sits further aft between two sunpads. Below and outboard, two hull sections fold down into sea terraces – open-air platforms at waterline level with their own furniture, which turn a quiet anchorage into a private beach without launching anything.

Forward, the helideck doubles as a basketball court, complete with painted lines and a proper hoop. It is a genuinely unusual piece of programming, and it changes what a week on board looks like for a family. Inside, the spa runs deep: a wood-lined sauna, a red mosaic hammam, a treatment room and a gym with the sea on two sides.

The main saloon opens onto a staircase that climbs through the yacht’s central volume, orange and blue seating grouped in threes so the room works for six as easily as sixteen. Forward of it, the formal dining room seats a full charter under a carved ceiling with a stone fireplace at one end. A cinema sits one deck below with tiered sofas and a screen set into the joinery, and there are quieter rooms besides – an observation lounge, a bar, a study.

Accommodation is arranged for twelve in seven cabins. The master occupies the forward end of its own deck, with a domed ceiling, a sitting area and a private dressing room. Guest cabins alternate between doubles and twins, several with a writing desk set under the window line, all finished in dark macassar and pale silk. Twenty-seven crew run the operation, which is the number that makes a yacht this size feel effortless rather than institutional.

She charters the western and eastern Mediterranean through the summer and crosses to the Caribbean and Bahamas for the winter. For a group that wants the full apparatus – the pool, the terraces, the spa, the court, the crew – there is a very short list of yachts that deliver it, and Whisper has been at the top of it for ten years under a different name.
