Cambodia’s Gulf of Thailand coast rewards a classic yacht in ways that more heavily visited destinations cannot match. These islands have been largely spared the resort development that has reshaped much of Thailand’s coastline, and the pace of travel here suits a vessel with character and history. Classic yachts available in South East Asia include timber gulets of Aegean lineage, converted traditional wooden vessels, and heritage liveaboards with interiors that feel entirely at home in a remote island environment. Rates range from around 45,000 to over 300,000 euros per week, with provisioning adding roughly 30 percent for food, fuel, and permits. The dry season runs from November through April. Itineraries depart from Sihanoukville and follow the coast southwest toward the Koh Sdach Archipelago, a scattering of 64 largely uninhabited islands where anchorages are calm and the reefs are in good condition. Koh Rong offers wide beaches and sheltered bays where a classic yacht can anchor close to shore and the crew can take the tender in for provisions. Koh Rong Sanloem’s Saracen Bay has near-perfect holding and clear water for snorkelling. Further out, Koh Tang and Koh Prins are offshore islands 150 to 185 kilometres from the coast, rarely visited and offering some of the best reef diving in the western Gulf of Thailand. A classic yacht here draws genuine interest from local fishing boats and the occasional onlooker at anchor, a reminder that this part of South East Asia remains genuinely off the beaten path for private yacht charter.
