Ha Long Bay itself covers nearly 1,500 square kilometres, but the connected waters of Bai Tu Long Bay to the northeast and Lan Ha Bay to the south add hundreds of further square kilometres of navigable limestone formations, uninhabited islands, and sheltered anchorages.
