Thailand’s coastal geography divides neatly between two very different charter environments. On the Andaman Sea side, Phuket sits at the centre of a cruising ground that includes Phang Nga Bay, the Similan Islands and the Surin Islands, offering experiences from dramatic limestone karst anchorages to pristine marine national park reefs. On the Gulf of Thailand side, Ko Samui and the Ang Thong Marine Park provide a gentler, more sheltered setting. Both are world-class.
Motor yachts in the Thailand charter fleet are predominantly based in Phuket, with some vessels operating out of Ko Samui and Krabi. They range from sleek sport-cruisers suited to island hopping around the Phi Phi Islands to larger displacement motor yachts capable of reaching the Similan Islands in comfortable time. Crew are experienced in navigating the tidal channels of Phang Nga Bay and the more open passages to the national park islands offshore.
Charter rates for Thailand motor yachts start from around 20,000 euros per week for mid-range vessels and reach 120,000 euros for larger crewed yachts. The advance provisioning allowance adds approximately 30 percent for fuel, provisioning, berthing and crew gratuity. November to April is high season on the Andaman coast, when the northeast monsoon has passed and daily conditions are settled.
Provisioning from Phuket is excellent, with fresh seafood available from local markets and international supermarkets catering to long-term charter operations. The island has a developed yachting infrastructure including full haul-out and refit facilities.
